Zi trista pentru fanii Arctic Monkeys: ieri seara intr-un interviu in exclusivitate pentru postul britanic BBC, Alex Turner a confirmat ca in momentul de fata lucreaza la ultimul lui album alaturi de colegii lui de la Arctic Monkeys, urmand ca dupa lansarea acestuia sa se concentreze exclusiv pe proiectul lui secundar, The Last Shadow Puppets demarat alaturi de prietenul sau Miles Kane de la The Rascals. "Due to irresolvable personality conflicts with Jamie Cook as well as musical differences, after the release of our forthcoming album, i am permanently leaving the band. I wish the other three members nothing but the best in all of their future endeavors" declara Tuner. The vibe was surprisingly mellow and low-key, either because of the fact that the songs were reworked from their recorded versions to be played acoustic, or because this is Turner’s calmer side. Rolling Stone described the sound as “noir-ish sixties soundtrack,” and one member of the crowd drew the comparison that “if the Arctic Monkeys are Blur, this is The Good, The Bad, and The Queen”
The goal of this series of posts is fairly simple, I am going to write a post about all of the Arctic Monkeys B-Sides, Non-Album Tracks, and other rarities. I have no clue how long this will take, or even if I will finish it, but it should be a fun ride. Why the Arctic Monkeys? Well, I have been a huge fan of the Arctics since, well, they were forced into my life back in 2004, and I am quite familiar with their music, albums and other mediums. "When The Sun Goes Down" (aka Scummy Man) gets credit as one of the Arctic's signature songs. Of course, after "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" got annoying, non-fans jump on "Scummy Man" as if on autopilot. With good reason too, Scummy is the only true three-dimensional song on Whatever... and illustrates prolific storytelling swamped between extraordinary meat'n'potatoes guitars. While a standout single, "7", a b-side on the When The Sun Goes Down EP, still stands as one of the Arctic Monkeys' best non-album tracks to date. The trac

For saying that they started off their career by calling us all vampires, its quite surprising how united we, in the music press, are in our adulation of the Arctic Monkeys. In the wake of Favourite Worst Nightmare's widespread critical acclaim, music journos the length and breath of the country are united under the alt-indie simians' banner, and 'Teddy Picker' is the third single from the said album in line to be lavished with unmitigated praise.
'Teddy Picker', is a typical Monkeys' affair; a bright, riff-driven pop treat, laced with lyrics that are as clever as they are cynical. But the main, nay crucial, thing that sets the track apart is the newfound confidence it demonstrates. 'Teddy Picker' is the sound of a band finally comfortable in its own skin, and last vestiges of the hesitation that sometimes crept into the band's earlier work have disappeared entirely, as Turner screams his lyrics into the microphone with newfound vigour. It seems that the Monkeys' have

By Mantas LisauskasAfter hearing I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor on the radio and the fact that it made Number 1 within a few weeks of it being released I thought the Arctic Monkeys deserved a review on UKEvents. The band formed in 2002, but were only just being recognized when their demos became available on the Net in 2004. Their appearances on the Carling Stage at the 2005 Reading and Leeds Festivals were hyped by much of the music press especially by the NME magazine and they received a rather large crowd at the events.Their popularity rocketed following several shows which notably impressed many who went to them - the band played at a sold-out London Astoria, and 2000 fans sang the words to every song, despite the fact that the band had only released one record. The band finished recording their debut album at a studio in Lincolnshire in September 2005. Its name was confirmed as Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not in early December, before its release date of 30 J

Lets face it, the Gym Class Heroes will never be as cool as the Arctics, but for those hardcore-Chokehold who need some convincing, take a well scrutinizing look at this melodramatic cover.
After the Arctic Monkeys’ 2006 over-hyped, over-blogged, over-publicized, over-the-top sucess with their triumphant debut, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, the lads got back in the studio to manufacture the extremely critized flop, Leave Before The Lights Come On, which was seen as an act of sell-outship. The witty damn-I-shouldn’t ‘ave-fucked-her lyrics shamed against the sure-fire signiture Arctic Monkeyness they seem do with their instruments, seems to pack as must action as any title track from Whatever…, proving that Alex Turner’s songcraft was unaffected by this hyped-blogged-publized-over-the-top-ness that seemed to surround the Arctics.
Why then did the Gym Class Heroes go out of their way to produce a sloppy version of it? Af
Thanks to FinalPizzaHutSnarly and stone-sharpened, the Arctic Monkeys open their sophomore effort with "Brianstorm," a bracing blast of guitar fractures and rhythmic herky-jerks. Alex Turner's voice is the centerpiece, scoured the way the Streets' Mike Skinner's quick. Favourite Worst Nightmare moves from frontal blast quickly to the lean, mid-paced pop nugget, "Teddy Picker," which even with its clear guitars and straight rhythms still has Turner's tart intonation piercing the air. The tugging bass and guitar of "Fluorescent Adolescent" show shades of the retro-soul tip that drives Amy Winehouse (and Lily Allen), showing that the Arctic Monkeys have a taste for the dancefloor that spans generations, even if their guitars can cut across each other with relentless jaggedness while Turner's caustic pipes lasso the ears. Nightmare expands the band's reach, as when "Do Me a Favour" goes wonderfully haywire from tumbling rhythm, clear-guitar, and fluid narrative to a cresting blast of
Thanks To FinalPizzaHut Hot on the heels of their shock No.1 single "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor", Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not confirms Sheffield’s Arctic Monkeys as the UK underground’s most proselytising young preachers of the DIY gospel. Marrying nervy, caffeine-and-cigarettes indie clatter to conversational, pretence-free lyrics and the occasional burst of off-the-cuff eloquence--"No time for Montagues or Capulets/Just banging tunes and DJ sets", proffers "…Dancefloor"--it’s an instant, pulse-racing hit. No question, the Monkeys are more sinners than saints. The opening "The View From The Afternoon" predicts a ruckus with a whole lot more grit than the Kaisers can muster, while on the mellow "Riot Van", a tale of underage drinking and cop-baiting culminates in a messy beating in the back of a station-wagon. Look beyond the Arctics’ bristly, laddish exterior, however, because it’s actually affairs of the heart that comprise this album’s

Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine @ allmusic.com
Breathless praise is a time-honored tradition in British pop music, but even so, the whole brouhaha surrounding the 2006 debut of the Arctic Monkeys bordered on the absurd. It wasn't enough for the Arctic Monkeys to be the best new band of 2006; they had to be the saviors of rock & roll. Lead singer/songwriter Alex Turner had to be the best

Maybe I misjudged the Arctic Monkeys. Maybe I spoke too soon. I did, after all, write 300 words a few weeks ago on why theyre an overrated example of produced British pop-punk, undeserving of the spotlight because all their songs sound the same and their lyrical and musical shtick is typical Brit-pop fare. But maybe I spoke too hastily

I don't find The Libertines and The Strokes as influential bands but good bands. They released nice couple of albums, play their live shows and that was all. Arctic Monkeys ,whose ambition on playing guitar is similar to these bands, drop another record after "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not". With a couple word, it's embarrassing for me hearing stupid high school kind

I believe that enough has already been written about the Arctic Monkey’s success and hype, especially regarding their debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not. Like many people, I didn’t really understand what all the fuss is about. That album isn’t a bad album, it’s nice, catchy and has some fine moments but it’s not great either. For a band in their status, I’m sure there was a lot of pressure on them when they began recording this album, after all, plenty of bands with successful debuts have had sophomore slumps. I’m not sure what I expected this album to sound like but I can certainly say that it sounds better than I expected it to be. Brainstorm, the album’s opener track and lead single, is heavier and faster than anything on their previous album. I think they chose wisely when they picked it as their first single because it’s certainly one of the best songs on th
The Arctic Monkeys are back, and what a song to come back with! This is their new single ‘Brianstorm’, the first off the forthcoming 2nd album ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’. It feels as though they actually haven’t been away for long, as the last single ‘Leave Before The Lights Come On’ was cleverly released between the two albums to quench the insatiable thirst for new material by the Sheffield band. I can’t believe that ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’, their first release and the song that propelled them straight to the top of the British music scene, was released in October of 2005! It seems like only yesterday to me.
‘Brianstorm’ gives a great indication of where the band are heading, with it being recognisable as an Arctic Monkeys song while still sounding fresh and new. The single has been available for download since 2nd April, but was only released in physical forms yesterday in the UK. It’s

Are the Arctic Monkeys the second coming of the Rolling Stones? The Beatles Reincarnate? No. They are four British 20 year olds who play fast-paced, hook-laden rock songs about being young, hanging out, drinking beer, and women. VS. ... The Arctic Monkeys dont suck necessarily. They just arent that good. They somehow became the biggest band to hit the U.K. last year since the Libertines
Just learnt that Bullet For My Valentine will be supporting Metallica for their show at the new Wembley stadium on 8th July. Thats pretty awesome news for the boyos from Wales, to not only be supporting Hetfield and Co. but to also be playing Wembley is pretty wicked and reward for their hard work in recent months putting the new album together, which I think is out this year so i am eagerly awaiting that.LINKI have heard and now own a copy of the new Artic Monkeys song - "Brianstorm" from the forthcoming album "Favourite Worst Nightmare" which is released on the 23rd of April. It's cool, pretty much as you'd expect from them, with the wicked guitar work and vocals. Its got a real punchy feel to it, especially near the end of the song where you think the song has ended but it cuts back in with a venom. Very good.
And on today's show we have...Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm NotArctic Monkeys"Hey, have you heard the new Arctic Monkeys record?""No, why?""Don't. 'Cos nothing could beat the old one."With only a few days to go before Favourite Worst Nightmare gets into the hands of millions of drooling teenagers and a few more before it gets onto store shelves, it's a good time to take a look back at what was in fact, the Godzilla of record releases last year. Barry Gibb once said, and this was sometime at the height of his band's career, "We're so overground, we're underground." From nobody to number one in six months gives the Arctic Monkeys every right to be the over/underground darlings that everyone and Pitchfork have an opinion about."Don't believe the hype" says the piddly little boy that Alex Turner is, before his band launches into a tribute to Lurch... er, Peter Crouch on television. With an average age of what seems like 15 and a few months, the Monkeys have managed to
Following closely on the success of "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not," the Arctic Monkeys have announced the release of their new alblum "Favourite Worst Nightmare," which will be available internationally on April 23. The first song “Brianstorm,” will come out on April 16, ensuring a build-up for cd sales. The new effort will feature the recording debut of bassist Nick O’Malley, who replaced founding member Andy Nicholson last year.In an interview with Billboard, producer James Ford gave a blasé quote as to the feel of the album saying "It's quite a bit heavier in some places -- there's also some really nice songs on there. Some of the songs maybe [have] more depth to them. [It's] maybe not quite as instant as the first one." However, while “maybe” more depth and “some really nice” songs may seem like setting the bar too low for a band that has won a Grammy, Americans should remember that Ford is British.Track list:BrianstormTeddy PickerD Is for Dange
Arctic Monkeys are an English four-piece indie rock/post-punk revival band originating from High Green, a suburb of Sheffield. Formed in 2002, the band currently consists of Alex Turner on lead vocals and guitar, Jamie Cook on guitar, Matt Helders on drums and backing vocals and Nick O'Malley on bass guitar, a position formerly held by Andy Nicholson.

Not sure what to say about this one except...what's with the dancers? I'm thinking (and hoping) it's satirical. I like the song, but it definitely seems like a new, rougher style for Arctic Monkeys. Arctic Monkeys Get Into Beats!!Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner has said the band are making a "return to their musical roots" and experimenting with dance-inspired tracks.Alex explains: "We've tried to experiment - that's a bit of a dangerous word, but we've tried to push on with that."We'd be in soundchecks and it would be, 'F**king hell, what's that (sound) about?' So we'd record it on a phone. We ended up with breaks almost."I've always been into beats, we were into that before we were into The Strokes."^^ YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY :D
"Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" is the debut album by Sheffield band Arctic Monkeys, released on 23 January 2006. Recorded at Chapel Studios, Lincolnshire, before the band's first world tour, the album became the fastest selling debut album in the UK since records began, selling over 360,000 copies in its first week. It has since gone triple platinum in the UK, and won the 2006 Mercury Prize. The album includes both tracks from the band's original EP, Five Minutes with Arctic Monkeys, as well as their first two singles and UK Number Ones, "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" and "When the Sun Goes Down".The original release date was scheduled as 30 January 2006, but was brought forward to 23 January 2006 due to "high demand". Although the same was done with Franz Ferdinand, there remains continued speculation that the move was an attempt to counter the effects of the album's leak onto online file-sharing sites. Although many of the tracks featured on the album we
