      What is arbitrage sports betting
Sports betting arbitrage is a way of placing bets on the outcome of sporting events to net a profit, whatever may be the results of the event. It involves taking advantage of the differences in the odds that bookmakers offer on different participants. Arbitrage bettors, called 'arbitageurs', place their bets on every selection of a sporting event in a manner that ensures them a profit no matter who the winner is. It is a way of gambling for assured returns and is termed as no risk gambling. There are different names for sports arbitrage opportunities; all of which refer to the same style of betting. The most popular is ‘arbs’, while other names are overbrokes, surebets, underrounds, all carrying exactly the same meaning. Sports arbitrage bettors are able to get guaranteed profits by lo

      Statistical-Arbitrage via Excel
Now that we know how to import data into Excel, let me explain a simple technique for an edge the public crowd largely remains clueless of. I used to apply it myself but not today as I now utilize strategies that require less patience, and hence release of this information does not conflict with my own trading interests. Basic Concept Statistical-arbitrage basically means exploiting statistical outliers. Exponential growth does not sustain (but decay does), both in nature and financial markets. Fundamentally, exponential growth of stock prices occur when the public crowd drifts off to fantasy land and keeps buying while institutional traders await to take profit. To exploit this phenomenon, you search for growing stock(s) and make downside bets as prices surpass exponential level

To earn money from eBay arbitrage you will need to have access to eBay and a website like Craigslist.com. Look what items people are buying and selling at Craigslist and if you can find the same product on eBay, but for a lower price, then there is some potential for you to make money. When you sell an item on Craigslist then simply buy this item from eBay and make sure it will be shipped to your customer from Craigslist. There may arise some problems, because you are not actually shipping the item, so you have no guarantee that the item will be shipped at all. On the bright side if you have experience with eBay you will know to only have business with users who have more then 95% of positive feedback, which should guarantee that they are honest and in many cases more honest then mortal an

How to Not Get Banned for Adsense Arbitrage
Would you believe a rumour that tells you that Google is going to ban the publishers that practice Adsense Arbitrage? Well, then I suppose you don't agree with me that Google would commit suicide. After all, the Adword/Adsense system that Google uses is arbitrage. What Google wants to get rid of are the sites that convert poor for the advertisers. Imagen yourself paying dollars per click to get visitors to your site and you see your ad on one of those crappy "Made For Adsense" websites. Chances are that you want to take your ads of those sites right away. There's no quality content on those sites that gives the searcher the information he or she is looking for. Google is going after publishers that return bad ROI for the advertiser. Google has never said that they are going after Adsense

      Arbitrage Themed Business Models
“Well it takes too much money and risk to make money on your own…” Ever heard of that? Why did you ever assume it true? Classical arbitrage proves it completely false; it puts forth an operation that is both “self financing” and risk free. Seasoned businessmen and traders of financial instruments understand the concept and they apply it all the time. So how do you pull it off? Why does nobody discuss it openly? When it comes down to it, core business models of many SUCCESSFUL enterprises rely on arbitrage themed strategies. These guys play the game to win, and they do it by lowering risk dramatically compared to competitors and keeping it undisclosed. For example: Decades ago when China first opened its doors to the west, the first western importers made fortunes

      Critical Path (CPTH) Arbitrage Opportunity
According to this 8-K, Critical Path (CPTH) is entering into a merger to take the company private. If the merger takes place it looks like it will happen in the spring of 2008. So there is definitely time on this one. If all goes according to plan shares will be bought back for $0.102. The stock is currently trading at $0.08/share. This could yield a profit of over 25%. My only concern is that we are dealing with several months before this happens and the merger isn’t exactly a done deal. I may see if I get lucky with a bid lower than the current market price. It is a 1:70,000 reverse split…so there is the potential to make a good chunk of money if you are willing to risk a good chunk of money.

      First Arbitrage
I talked briefly in the past about how I was considering playing the arbitrage game for some of our big purchases for the new house. We had the opportunity to get no payments and no interest for one year on two of our big purchases. We are going to take advantage of that and try to earn a few more bucks for ourselves. We had saved the money for both of these purchases, but instead of paying them off right away, we are going to invest the money for part of the time in a 6 month CD, and for the remainder of the time in a money market or high-yield savings (whichever looks better at the time). We have approximately $6000 we are going to invest for this. Now, we’re only doing this because we already have the money and we are not getting things outside of what we had planned for. We have developed the discipline not to go spending this cash when we know we are holding debt. If I didn’t feel disciplined enough I probably wouldn’t be trying this. We used Bankrate.com

      Forex Quasi-arbitrage Hedge System
I thought about this system several months ago. I wasn't able to find a suitable implementation, because I tweaked it to the point I completely screw it up, so I'll put it the way I initially thought it.Trader's Fallacy: Hey, I can follow that trend and make cash like a pro!Traders love charts. Perhaps our reason for entering stock , forex or other markets was watching trending markets and simple indicators. The simplest indicator that someone gets in touch with when entering forex or stocks is the Moving Average (MA). Look how beautiful it is:You always used the MA as an indicator and always it tricked you! Damn whipsaws! But the MA is pretty neat. Whatever happens and wherever far the market will go, eventually it will slow down and be catch up by the MA.Haven't you ever dreamed that the MA to be an asset to hedge agains the market itself ? Say go short the market, long the MA, and get profit on cometogether?Look at the highest peek, it's so far from that 200 values MA at about

      Riskless Profit through Pure Arbitrage
The word "arbitrage" gets thrown around a little bit, but here follows the pure form of arbitrage which is defined as simultaneously being "long" AND "short" a security at the same time in order to make a riskless instant profit.First a few definitions:LONG - Means that you believe the security is going up so you own it (or indirectly own it, to be technical).SHORT - Means that you believe the security is going down, so you sell it. And really, shorting means you sell something you don't own - hoping to buy it at a lower price.Next, you'll probably be puzzled as to why you would be long and short a security at the same time - all else being equal you expect your gain on the stock you owned would exactly be offset by the loss on the short (or vice versa) - and you would be right.SO - the first thing you have to understand is that this strategy only applies in certain circumstances.  Most often that circumstance would be when a stock is "i

Two Arbitrage Opportunities (CNFL & MEDRF)
The first thing on my recent “to-do list” was to pick up my hunt for decent arbitrage opportunities. After sifting through the last 2-3 weeks of SEC Filings (I’ll discuss my method at a later date) I only came up with two that were intriguing. The first is Medaire Inc. (MEDRF). In a recent PRE 14C they announced a 1:5,000 reverse stock split with fractional shares being purchased for $1.11 per share. At the time the stock was trading near $1/share. If the shares could be purchased at $1.00 then you’d be looking at a 10% profit on up to $5,000 in a matter of months. At this time the stock is trading at $1.05, cutting the profit down to about 5%. So…depending on the price you can purchase the stock it may be worth while. The second opportunity, and in my opinion the better of the two, is Citizens Financial Corp. (CNFL). In this going private transaction, as described in an 10/4/07 DEF 14A, Citizens will be doing a 1:250 reverse stock split with fractional s

Riskfreeprofit’s Sports Arbitrage Trading – Gambling or Investing?
In the world of financial markets, arbitrage trading is a technique where the trader buys a security at a low price and sells it in another market at a higher price. The trades usually occur at the same time so the trader makes a profit from the discrepancy in pricing on two separate markets. Arbitrage situations are not restricted just to the financial markets. It can happen with the buying/selling of physical goods and with sports wagering. Arbitrage situations in sports betting occur frequently because different bookkeepers post different odds on the outcome of the same game. If an arbitrage is identified, it is usually a “risk free” or a “can’t lose” situation. Let’s imagine a football game between Team A and Team B. Bookmaker #1 is giving even odds, so a $100 dollar bet wins $100 if you pick the winning team. Bookmaker #2 has Team A at +200. If you bet $100 on Team A with bookmaker #2, you collect $200 if they win and lose $100 if Team A loses. This is an arbit

Ebay Auction Arbitrage: A learning Process
As my fiancee has been moving into more freelance work, we have begun renewing our activity in selling on eBay. This has included the opening of an eBay Store, the details of which I will probably get into at a later time. I have an interesting way of shopping for inventory that I think is a lot of fun and others think is a little nuts. I’ll grab my laptop (well…. the office laptop for now) and head out to a local auction or a bunch of garage sales. Here’s how I try to guarantee my profit: I’ll walk into the event and walk around, taking a brief look around but trying to see as much as possible. I try to note large groups of similar items as well as any name brand items. I return to my vehicle and laptop and turn it on and connect to the internet. I log on to ebay and do some quick completed item searches for the items or types of items I just found. It all sounds really easy but the trick I’ve found is that you have to be fast. Once the auction starts

New kids on the block: Currency Futures, Islamic Banking and Spot-to-Futures Arbitrage
As I promised to my readers, I am returning with an article about the "new" currency futures contracts introduced by the non-NFA regulated brokers. Together with arbitrageable commodities, currency futures prove to be some of the most valuable contracts to be found in a broker's datafeed.1. Basics of Currency Futures======================Currency futures are the standardized, transferrable version of currency forwards. Currency forward contracts lock in the price at which an entity can buy or sell a currency on a future date. But how is a currency futures priced?A spot forex rate is the rate at which two currency amounts are equal : for example, 10000 USD are (at a moment, "spot") equal to 1.230.000 JPY at 123 JPY/USD rate. Since the time value of a currency is given by the interest, the currency futures rate which equalizes them incorporates the differential rate.Suppose we have two currencies, A and B, both equal now, as A/B = 1 spot rate.A interest in 20%, while B interest is 5%so

No More Free Money - Pulling The Plug On Credit Card Arbitrage
After a year long run with 0% APR credit card arbitrages, it looks like it’s time to pull the plug. The sole reason for ending this free money run is the lack of *good* 0% APR offers to continue transferring the existing balances. Most credit card companies now impose balance transfer fees at about 3% of the amount of the balance transfered with no maximum limit and some have taken the “0% APR” terminology totally off their charts. All in all, the card companies seem to be making sure that people don’t milk them for the money with these offers. In my case, some additional crap happened which has sort of ticked me off this arbitrage game. Here is how stuff unfolded: Currently, I have balances on Citibank and Discover cards. The offers are coming to an end within the next few weeks. Balance transfer offers do not allow transfer between two cards of the same kind (you cannot use a balance transfer offer to move your balance on one Citibank card to another Citib

      Arbitrage in commodities markets
The explosion of brokerage firms on the Internet leads to an ever increasing competition among them ; one of the ways to have a better offer than the competitors is offering more markets to the trader , broadening his trading horizons from the narrowness of random forex; and since we're talking about MetaTrader, the most easy to automate and yet free platform of this kind, this is done by non-NFA regulated brokers, since NFA forbids the implementation of other contracts as CFDs (futures , stocks and bonds can't be implemented on MetaTrader the way they are). Ultimately, this is what traders wanted from the beginning: a single automated platform usable for trading many markets , in order to deploy logical and profitable strategies, not only indicator-hunting strategies... Perhaps NFA has its reasons for banning CFDs, however, if technical solutions are not found to this problem, US brokers will be effectively wiped out by the competition abroad on the retail segment where MetaTrader

      Swap Arbitrage
First of all, for who doesn't know what swaps are, they are implementation of differential interest rates. We aren't going to present here the implementation of swaps starting from the differentials, but the purpose of the article is to show how the swaps may be used to make money with a small amount of risk.Swap Arbitrage, as a hedging for interest technique, is another application of Kreslik currency rings: this time there is no need for FPI calculation or generation of virtuals. All it matters is that the currency ring to be correctly placed, and to generate interest by its simple existence. I called it "Swap Arbitrage", because, if we cut out the forex impact, which is usually fixed due to hedging, it's like buying lower and selling higher swaps. The tinier the results, the more risky Swap Arbitrage is, because the swaps need longer time to recover spread loss, time in which fundamental events may alter the interest rates.1. Evolution and principles of the Intercross Arbitrage
      I. Evolution towards Intercross Arbitrage1. Triangular Arbitrage================It is perhaps one of the most known arbitrage strategies learned in finance school. It consists in converting a given amount of cash in a currency thru some other currencies and back to original currency and getting profit, thus completing a currency ring transformation. It can be applied as an N-angular Arbitrage, when it has N currencies to deal with, but usually it's about three and this is why it's called Triangular Arbitrage. So, if we'd have some USD and market rates would allow arbitrage, it would mean, for example, to convert it to EUR, then to JPY and back to USD and have profit.Example: we have $500Market Rates:EURUSD 1.3700/03EURJPY 162.09/12USDJPY 118.18/20So we decide to:1. sell USD to buy EUR (LONG EURUSD @ 1.3703) : 500 USD/1.3703 = 364.8836 EUR2. sell EUR to buy JPY (SHORT EURJPY @ 162.09) : 364.8836 EUR * 162.09 = 59143.9827 JPY3. sell JPY to buy USD (LONG USDJPY @ 118.20) : 59143.9827 /

      Merger or Risk Arbitrage Overview
Introduction to Merger Arbitrage Merger arbitrage, also known as risk arbitrage, is an event driven trading strategy that attempts to exploit the market price spreads of equities during the merger process. When one corporation announces plans to purchase another corporation, the target corporation’s market price normally increases to a price slightly below the offer price. Because the merger announcement does not guarantee that an actual merger will occur, the market price is normally discounted slightly lower than the offer price. Merger arbitrage is the process of assessing and managing this risk to profit from the potential of the spread diminishing when the market price ultimately reaches the offer price. Merger arbitragers bet that deals will go and profit as spreads decrease. Merger Arbitrage Strategy Merger arbitrage centers on capturing the market price spread in exchange for bearing risk. The central risk is deal risk. Deal risk is the risk that the announced merger wi

      Adsense Arbitrage - Automation
As we saw in part II AdSense Arbitrage: Keyword Selection, finding the right set of circumstances where AdSense Arbitrage is going to work requires a bit of work. You' ve got to get a large enough set of related keywords, get some prices, and then compare and look for the right opportunity. If you read Rae' s blog then you might remember her post on Legitimate Use of Mechanical Grunts, which is a perfect for this situation. However after you get the keywords, and prices you' re still going to have to sift through all that data. I was talking with Scott (aka Web Professor) last week and he pointed me in the direction of Standard deviation. Ok there is going to be a little math here, and it may look really scary and look like it's going to make your head hurt. Trust me it' s OK we can get through this really. I hate reading those long boring overly complicated search engine patents just as much as you do, so I'll keep things simple. The big formula is coming brace yourself … Ok I

Adsense Arbitrage - Selection of Keywords
In part I Performing AdSense Arbitrage, we went over the basics of how AdSense arbitrage works. In this part we're going to roll up our sleeves and look at some actual keywords and see if we can find some areas where we might like to try some arbitrage. While high paying keyword lists may be somewhat useful it's important to understand how those lists are generated and some of their limitations (see Contextual Advertising with AdSense High-Paying Keywords, Part 2 (series) for a more in depth discussion). I like to start with the Overture bid tool, and if things look OK then go into Google Adwords tool. It's been my experience that with the AdWords keyword tool there is quite often a substantial difference between what they estimate I will pay and what I actually end up paying for a keyword. Now this could have something to do with the "quality score" variable Google doesn't share with you, or any number of other factors, but I don't put too much faith in the Google estimated prices

How to Perform Adsense Arbitrage -1
If you frequent any of the AdSense forums chances are you've come across the phrase "AdSense Arbitrage", while it's been around for a while a lot of people don’t understand what it is, or how it works. While I'm not a big player in the arbitrage model I've been doing it profitably for a few months, so I can explain how I do it and share a few tips I've picked up. In part II AdSense Arbitrage: Keyword Selection I'll take you through some real keyword options, and in part III AdSense Arbitrage: Automation and Button Pushing I'll go over some ideas for automating the process I learned recently. To start let's take a high level view of what AdSense arbitrage is and how it works. The basic principle is to pay for a low price for keyword in an advertising program like AdWords, Overture Yahoo Search Marketing, or MSN AdCenter and direct users to a page with AdSense or another contextual advertising program on it that has higher payout. You can either bid low on the same term, looking

Arbitrage Opportunity - KTEL (20-30% Profit)
Ok, all of the posts up to this date have covered investing moves I’ve made in the past. This will be the first post that will provide you with useful information that (hopefully) you can use to turn a profit. This will be another lesson in arbitrage. It won’t make you rich, but if you have $300-$400 to spare we should be able to make an $80-100 profit in two to three months. The stock is K Tel International Inc. (KTEL). This is a penny-stock that normally wouldn’t be a wise investment. Ironically, it is the “lack of an active trading market for its common stock” that makes this copany worth investing in (but only for a few more days and only at a certain amount). Because of the lack of interest in the stock, and because of the regulatory burdens of being publically traded, this company plans to go private. In order to do this the company must have fewer than 300 share holders. The common method of reducing the number of shareholders in this situation is

Arbitrage Opportunity: Combining the UltraShort Real Estate ETF with Closed-End REIT Funds
Most investors are familiar with the fact that most Closed-end Funds (CEFs) trade at a discount to Net Asset Value (NAV) and carry an above average dividend, but are unsure of how to profit from these variables. There is also a relatively new investment product known as Leveraged Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), which seek to double the daily returns of a specific index. There are leveraged ETF products for every general sector in the market as well as the broad indexes. There also are leveraged ETF products that move opposite to the underlying index. An investor can utilize both of these products to generate income similar to that of a fixed income instrument, but this strategy has much less volatility. By implementing this strategy, an investor takes advantage of the above-average dividends that the Closed-end Funds provide and virtually eliminates the risk of the transaction using a leveraged ETF that moves in the opposite direction of the index that the CEFs follow. The Closed-end Fun

Understand the structure of the three types of takeover offers: each requires a different risk arbitrage strategy
Takeover offers are generally made in one of three ways. In the simplest type of offer, the would-be acquirer proposes to pay a specific amount of cash for each target share. WIth such a cash offer, you can easily calculate the profit potential. If  $25 a share is offered and the target company’s stock is trading for $22, the potential gain is $3 a share (less commissions, plus any dividends to be paid by the parget). If the merger takes six months to complete, a $3 gain on a $22 investment works out to an annualized return of about 27 percent. An annulized return of 27 percent is about three times the average annual return on the market. The second type of offer involves a fixed ratio exchange of shares (a stock offer). The bidder offers to pay for the target shares with shares of the acquirer’s own company. Thus additional shares will be issued at the time of the exchange, thereby increasing the total number of acquirer shares outstanding. Increasing the number of

      Takeovers and Risk Arbitrage
Bankruptcy investors seek to take advantage of the opportunities created by what they believe to be too much pessimism in the corner of the marketplace where they operate. Other types of investors rely on the market’s optimism. One such specialized area of investing called risk arbitrage involves trading in the secruities of firms that are the targets of takeover offers. Risk arbitragers take positions in the stocks of firms that are potential or actual takeover targets. They may also trade in the stocks of the would-be-acquires. Buying and selling stocks of companies involved in takeover attempts can be quite profitable but does involve significant risk. As always, you should be selective. The Stocks of actual and potential takeover targets are often attractive investments.  A company seeking to acquire another company usually does so by making an offer for the target company’s stock. That offer price is almost always substantially above the stock’s current m

Idea: "Time Arbitrage" and Television Shows
Arbitrage is simply a technique employed to take advantage of differences in price. If you're a television producer, or just a TV junkie, here is my idea to take advantage of (and monetize) a new kind of arbitrage opportunity - time. With the exception of 24, television shows generally do not pick up from the exact the point where they left off. There is usually a period of time that has elapsed - anywhere from a week to a month. I think a neat way to make a show more interactive and engaging would be to offer "character blogs" Die hard fans would read the various blogs during the week to keep tabs on what particular characters have doing during show's downtime. The following week's show could even reference certain events that were written about in the blogs. Example: I don't watch much television these days, but I did see the final episode of the OC. So, imagine Seth Cohen writing a few blog entries each week. He talks about indie music, comic books and Summer Roberts

      Keyword Arbitrage
What is keyword arbitrage?Keyword Arbitrage is the practice of buying low priced keywords to generate traffic to websites which contain higher priced versions of ads. For example, let us say you are utilizing a Contextual Advertising Program like Google Adsense on a website about Search Engine Optimization which displays ads that have a payout of $1.00. With keyword arbitrage, you develop a keyword list that contains low cost, relevant keywords, maybe with a cost of $0.10, in hopes of trying to generate clicks on your high paying Search Engine Optimization ads.Does keyword arbitrage work?I will honestly say that keyword arbitrage does work in terms of generating revenue if it is done correctly. Analysis and testing are the key components in terms of developing a profitable keyword arbitrage campaign. You need to be able to research high paying keywords, write content to force these contextual advertising programs to serve up those high paying ads and develop a very robust yet relevant
