I consider myself lucky and blessed that I never fell victim to the ravages of anorexia.  I was one of many …. I guess dabblers would be an appropriate term.  I managed my weight not by healthy eating or with exercise but with methods that included starvation, binging/purging, laxatives, etc.   In high school this enabled me to maintain a weight in the range of 120-128 depending on the time of the month.  And I considered it normal.  I continued to use these techniques on and off into my adult life to one degree or another with varying degrees of success.  Success applying only to my goal of maintaining my weight.   As a mother of two girls I of course worry about them one day following in my foodsteps.  I worry because of how much more pressure there is now, as compared to 25-30 years ago when I was their age, to be thin  ….. to be beautiful ….. to be THIN. Every now and then I remind people about the Thinspiration Petition they can sign here at fracas. Recently, there’s been a spike in hits to the posts here about anorexia. On other blogs, people have also noticed a spike in interest in anything anorexia or bulimia related. Eating disorders in general. Perhaps it’s because for some, the school year has begun again and for others, it’s on the threshold?
