I quattro newyorchesi Animal Collective sono tornati per deliziarci con un nuovo album dal titolo "Strawberry Jam", l'ottavo senza contare gli EP e i vari lavori da solisti dei componenti del gruppo. Un disco quanto meno stravagante se ci si avvicina al suo ascolto credendo di trovarsi di fronte un gruppo "normale" che fa canzoni come i molti artisti che siamo abituati a sentire alla radio. Sì, rispetto ai lavori precedenti gli Animal Collective le tracce si avvicinano maggiormente alla forma tipica di una canzone, con delle strofe e un ritornello. Ma questa è solo una sottile linea guida attorno alla quale è costruito qualcosa che, se parlassimo di architettura, si potrebbe paragonare a un'opera dell'eccentrico architetto Gaudì. People is an EP by Animal Collective released in October of 2006. The first three songs were recorded during the band's Feels sessions in 2005, while the live version of "People" was recorded on tour in March 2005 just prior to the sessions.

The multitude of scattered electronic beeps that erupt from your speakers during the first thirty seconds of Peacebone' makes you wonder whether something has gone terribly wrong. Thankfully they soon settle into an addictively pulsing beat. These sparkling clusters of synths are then woven together into a rich sound tapestry alongside a myriad of strange noises and looping rhythms. The mixture of high pitched vocals with call and response choruses and bursts of spine-tingling screams create a distorted atmosphere and a sense of a deliberate lack of cohesion.
The other part of Animal Collective's first release since signing to Domino records is the more ethereal Safer'. Clocking in at around nine minutes, it contains several distinct sections yet patterns and rhythms dance and build throughout. Twinkling pianos and vocal echoes bounce around rumbles and growls in the distance conjuring up images of watching shadows flickering around a fire set deep in a forest at midnight

Matt and Kim: “Yea Yeah (Flosstradamus remix)”
There was really no reason for Flosstradamus to remix this song, because the original packs far more dancable, joyful punch anyway. The video, directed by Demonbabies, isn’t as good as the original either. The children’s show theme is perfect for Matt and Kim, yet the video annoys quickly, mostly due to the puppet host who interrogates the band. Still, Matt and Kim smile the entire time, just as they do at their shows and in their other videos. Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars
