      American League Playoff Picture Materializing
It looks like the American League MLB playoff picture is beginning to come into focus. At the moment, Tampa Bay, Chicago and Los Angeles will be division winners with Boston coming in with the wild card. If the playoffs began today we would see a couple of interesting match-ups where upset could come from both sides. If the playoffs began today:Los Angeles Angels vs Boston Red SoxTampa Bay Rays vs

      American League East
The 2008 Major League Baseball season has been interesting, especially in the American League East. Who could have predicted that the Tampa Bay would be clinging to the top spot ahead of Boston and that New York would be in fourth behind Toronto? I mean, other than Baltimore being in the tank (except for Aubrey Huff), the rest is just a total fiasco. In regards to the AL East title, Tampa Bay and B

American League 4, National League 3: And that makes 12 in a row….
Since the National League won in Philly in 1996, the American League has won 11 games (the 12th was the infamous tie in 2002). So, once again, the American League has home-field advantage for the World Series, as they have for every year since the “prize” was implemented in 2003… Can I just say how amusing [...]

      MLB Predictions: American League
East1. Boston Red Sox 2. New York Yankees3. Toronto Blue Jays4. Tampa Bay Devil Rays5. Baltimore OriolesThe Red Sox should be one of the top teams in the MLB. They still have a dominant line up with David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Mike Lowell, plus Jacoby Ellsbury will be a great leadoff man. The starting pitching rotation is solid with Josh Beckett and Jon Lester leading the way and the bullpen remains one of the best with Jon Papelbon and Hideki Okajima. The Yankees will obviously fight for the top of the division but their pitching staff isn't that strong. Also, watch out for the Blue Jays they may finally get into the playoffs if they stay healthy.Central1. Detroit Tigers2. Cleveland Indians3. Chicago White Sox4. Minnesota Twins5. Kansas City RoyalsThe Tigers have a very potent offense wit

MLB is still on! American League Preview
Changing the view a little bit, MLB is on right now and the standings are pretty interesting after yesterday’s games. Has anyone been watching Baseball lately?  On the AL East, the Boston Red Sox are leading over the Yankees, and after an exciting 11-6 win against Oakland they stood solid on 1st place. Add a good .595 to the mix and you will get a recipe for a potential Champion. Tonight they will face Minnesota at 7:05PM PT.  New York, despite being 2nd, also won over Tampa Bay with a great 13-4, though. The Devil Rays are way behind, with a sorry .411 PCT and a 65-93 on the stats. Tonight they will play again and we will see if yesterday’s game was just luck. On AL Central, Cleveland Indians are on top, with 94 games won and a .595 PCT on the records. The current leaders faced Seattle Mariners yesterday and tonight they will play against each other again.  Going West, The L.A. Angels of Anaheim are leaders with 92 games won, over 84 games from Seattle. The funny thing is t

Ichiro All-Star MVP American League Wins 10Th Straight
It may have been Barry's house, but it was Ichiro's night, as the soon to be $20 million man was the All-Star game MVP and the American League ended up holding on for the 5-4 victory. Ichiro Suzuki went three for three with two RBI capped off by an inside the park home run, the first in All-Star game history. The Seattle Times reported on Tuesday that the Seattle Mariners, and Ichiro are close to completing a contract reportedly for five years at $100 million, doubling his current salary. The American League had a 5-2 lead going into the bottom of the ninth when Seattle reliever J.J. Putz gave up a two run homer to Chicago Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano reducing the lead to one. The Senior Circuit looked like they had the momentum going their way as they loaded the bases off of Angels closer Francisco Rodriguez, but K-Rod got Philadelphia's Aaron Rowand to end the game with a fly out to right. Tampa Bay's Carl Crawford, and Cleveland's Victor Martinez both went deep for the A.L.

      My American League All-Stars
I realize I waited too late in the week to make predictions so even though the real starting rosters are out I'm going to give you my AL starters and you can tell me if you agree or not and see how they compare to how the fans voted.CatcherTSF's Pick: Victor Martinez - CLE Posada isn't a bad choice but Martinez has him in HRs and RBIs Hs, ABs. He strikes out considerably less and and his AVG is only .13 lower than Posada's. His numbers are better overall and who needs to see another Yankee in an all-star game? Martinez is my pick over Posada and I don't agree with the fans' picking Ivan Rodriguez.1st Base TSF's Pick: Justin Morneau - MINWith no seperate DH spot on the roster David Ortiz obviously took it home. Morneau really deserves it though if the vote was for a pure AL firstbaseman.2nd BaseTSF's Pick: BJ Upton - TB Theres really no weaker race than that of the AL 2nd basemen. Upton certainly doesn't help with his inconsistent defense and his minor quadricepts injury. Pola

      Player Notes: American League
AL Player Notes - April 3, 2007Eric Gagne - RP - Rangers Eric Gagne (elbow) threw 20 pitches Monday in an extended spring training game. Gagne is expected to pitch again Wednesday and could return from the disabled list as soon as April 13. Source: Dallas Morning NewsRocco Baldelli - DH - Devil Rays Rocco Baldelli's injured hamstring cramped up Monday, but he remained in the game and later stole a base after singling. "I cramped up right when I swung," Baldelli said. "I swung and took my first step out of the box and my leg cramped up. I knew what it was right away, but there was nothing I could do about it at that point except turn around and walk back to the dugout. I was just hoping it didn't stay cramped, and it didn't."Source: Tampa Tribune Esteban Loaiza - SP - Athletics Esteban Loaiza canceled Monday's scheduled bullpen session and will not start Thursday at Triple-A after experiencing further tightness in his injured shoulder. Loaiza is returning to Oakland Tuesday to

American League & National League Bullpens
Well folks, it is almost that time of the year for the baseball players to dust off their gloves, or in most of their cases, take the new glove out of the plastic and break it in. It is also that time to start looking ahead to the 2007 Major League Baseball Season. I came across something interesting in the Sporting News magazine that I get weekly. It is a look at the bullpens of the American League and the National League. The part about that I thought was cool was that they listed the guys in each bullpen with how many flame throwers (95+ MPH) they have. For example, the five guys they have listed from the Chicago White Sox are all flame throwers. Note: The rankings may be different now for the National League as Mike Gonzalez of the Pittsburgh Pirates was traded to the Atlanta Braves.
