If you happen to keep your cash in the Altoids tin and you discover that your cash is getting lesser and lesser each day. This is what you can do, add an alarm on it. Get ready an Altoids tin and a musical greeting card. Watch PopSci’s tutorial after the break.
I love hols because I have countless time to use as I please. But the drawback of it is, everything I planned to do was finished quickly, leaving me quite aimless and at lost of how to occupy myself with the remaining time. However, the realization that holidays are not forever and this one is coming to an end in just 3 weeks, pushed me forward to produce more crafts and what-not. I want to make full use of the free time granted to me at the moment - to do anything I want, without having to worry about lab practicals and class tests. This afternoon, I decided that I should clear out extras from my kawaii collection, while making some $$ at that. I made a felt cover for an Altoids tin (washed and sun-dried, so no cleanliness issues!), with the usual bling and bejeweled look. The theme is SUSHI~{Click on the pictures to view the listing on Etsy}The cover is very firmly glued to the tin top. The 'California Roll' tag is actually from a sushi fabric designed by Robert Kaufman. I bought a y
The good folks at the Altoids company keep throwing challenging new boxes my way and I keep taking the bate! The last was this fabulous looking sour chewing gum box. It measures 8.5cm x 3.7cm x 2cm and is about half the size of the regular Altoids box. It also sports a lovely curved top that should serve well in holding water and colour mixes. (You can see my old, well worn, regular Altoids box on the right for comparison)The smaller size was a real challenge. At these dimensions the box would not hold more than four standard half pans. Four pans would not really make a useful palette for me, so I looked for quarter pans. I know they used to sell those but I just can't find them anymore (If you know where I can find some please let me know). I finally decided to try using the FIMO clay that you can bake to a hard solid shape. I placed the clay in the metal box, smoothed it and used a round flat felt pen end to press 10 holes in the clay. I then smoothed those and placed the whole thi
Here's one of two Altoids cases that I purchased from a local discount store.. $1 each, with altoids and all. I must say, Cinnamon Altoids are stronger than the spicy candy hearts you get around Valentine's Day, but hey, it was all worth it.. For the case.

This is my entry in another challenge from the Talkcrafts forum. One member had a number of unused (but out of date) tins of the Marks & Spencer curiously strong mints which she offered to send to members with a challenge to 'alter' the tin and return for a random swap. I entered and duly received my tin. I rubbed down the tin with fine sandpaper and covered it all with gesso. then painted over this with acrylics in two contrasting colours. I then applied 6 x 1 inch paper tiles to the top of the lid with mod podge and applied raised letters to spell out 'BOX' after it had dried. I decorated the interier lid and bottom with printed photo paper in blue. I then used gold Krylon to decorate the outside of the tin. Finally putting a little glitterati fibres inside the tin in contrasting colours and closing with purple ribbon tied in a bow. My only regret is that I didn't put something inside the tin.............however I will do if I do any more 'altering' of tins. Here are the pics:
