Gee, We Wonder Why Dana Altman Changed His Mind
Creighton basketball coach Dana Altman's changing his mind about coaching the Razorbacks wouldn't have had anything to do with the fact that a few of the team's players are in legal and academic trouble (not to mention having to work in the same athletic department as known asshat and football coach Houston Nutt) would it?From the AP:On Wednesday, athletic officials at the school announced that two players had tested positive for marijuana recently, and another is under academic suspension.A news release with that announcement was issued just a day after Dana Altman told Razorback fans he had changed his mind about becoming head coach and would return to Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.Who here thinks that Altman took the job, showed up for the press conference, found out that three of his players may or may not be eligible next season, and decided, "To Hell with this sh*t"? Show of hands? In Omaha on Wednesday, Altman said he returned to Creighton because of his ties to the schoo

      RIP: Robert Altman
R.I.P. Robert Altman: 1925 - 2006 Iconic director Robert Altman passes away yesterday at the age of 81. Altman is known mostly for directing the films Mash, The Player, and Gosford Park and had just recently directed A Prairie Home Companion in which Paul Thomas Anderson was in many ways his understudy while on set. The producers of the film were quite worried that he may pass away during the production and for insurance reasons needed Anderson to be on set in case he collapsed and was unable to finish the production. Though his passing was expected that makes it no less tragic in that we have lost one of our great filmmakers. Altman is one of my favorite directors and I’ll be sure to remember his work by watching my Criterion edition of Short Cuts for the billionth time. He was the king of ensemble films and truly was an actor’s director. Somehow he seemed able to get a great performance out of just about anyone. I can only hope that I’ll be directing from a wheelch

      Eulogies for Altman
A Prairie Home Companion was director Robert Altman's last film. He seemed to sense his own impending mortality. A number of lines in the film confront the prospect of death with an admirably uplifting philosophy. I don't always think of death as a bad thing. People elegize instead of eulogize; mourn instead of celebrate. True, I've never suffered the death of someone really close to me; but one day I will, and I hope I will be able to deal with it in proportion. Births are not a miracle (they happen every second); deaths are not a tragedy when a life has fulfilled its potential; and even potential cut short can be full of beauty in its own way because it will always remain a possibility rather than a failure. Death is the only certain thing about life. Thus in A Prairie Home Companion the angel/femme fatale (played by Virginia Madsen) says:"There is no tragedy in the death of an old man. Forgive him his shortcomings, and thank him for all his love and care."And when an old man dies

LL Skips Altman's Service to Hang with A Jackass
When Robert Altman died last fall, Lindsay said she was so distraught she felt as if she just had the wind knocked out of her. Hmm, yet for some reason she skipped out on the memorial service that took place earlier this week. Turns out partying with Steve-O was more important. It seems like an odd choice of priorities for Lohan, who claimed the director "was the closest thing to my father and grandfather that I really do believe I've had in several years." A source sneered, "If he was so important to her, where was she?"Hey, maybe the invite to the memorial service got lost in the mail when trying to find her in rehab. She was only released last week, after all. We're not sure why Lindsay chose to skip the service, but we certainly hope that it isn't a sign of what's to come. Lindsay has been hitting up the clubs every night since she got out of rehab and Steve O is not exactly a good influence for a 12 stepper trying to get her life in order! Hopefully she will slow down or she'
