The hubs and I went to see:Forgetting Sarah Marshall I recommend you go see this movie since I thought it was hilarious! The crotch shots were totally worth it! I am not going to explain that sentence..Anyway, a few weeks ago, I had a horrible nightmare in which my dream of living in Hawaii went up in smoke because I was dipped in lava and... well, died. After that, I decided maybe Hawaii was not the place to live out my last days on Earth. Maybe I could relocate my fantasy retirement somewhere less combustible. But!This movie was filmed in Hawaii and my fear of melting was quickly replaced with "Screw it! I've gotta die from something why not end up like all the food I enjoy, fried, charred, broiled, seared. There are worse ways to spend your twilight years."In other world shatettering news

Hawaii has just lost roughly 15 percent of it's mainland arrivals in the last few days... that's pretty big news here. I've already had to juggle my schedule next week to accomodate divers who were delayed a couple days trying to get here, may lose a charter or two out of it. I currently have customers who are diving with me who just found out today (from Cathy and I) they might not have a way home set up at this point... the ATA flights are going to be tough to replace right away. Apparently Hawaiian is trying to add what flights they can, but they can only do so much. It'll be curious to see how this all shakes out. It was very quiet at the harbor today, several of the boats I see regularly at the boat ramp and boat wash at the end of the day weren't on the water today. I know at least

It's the end of an era of over 60 years. It'll be curious as to how this all shakes out. The State will ask the bankruptcy court to not allow the closure but that may not have any effect. Expect another airline to come in and purchase what remains of the company in a short time... hopefully.Aloha and Hawaiian had attempted to merger a few years back to attempt to create a larger, healthy company. The state wouldn't allow it despite pricing lock guarantees. When that fell through prices went up and the two companies have been struggling to do well since. Go Airlines came in a couple years ago and has offered artificially low prices which has weakened both companies. While benefitting passengers for the short term, it's made it tough for everyone to operate. Both companies have sued

I thought I'd talk a bit about a local South Kona Landmark. The Aloha Theater's been around for ages. They hold plays, host musicians, and screen the occasional movie (usually independant films, we saw "My Big fat Greek wedding" there when it was too small to hit the big theaters). There's been a restaurant there since we've moved here, it was originally a breakfast and lunch spot and added dinner after an ownership change and slight name change to it's current Aloha Angel Cafe. Anyway, it's long been known for good food and Hawaiian time service (slow service is very common here). We decided to give it a try the other week and had a great breakfast and prompt service. They put out a nice breakfast, Pat and I both had one of the day's specials... this day it was Prime rib, eggs and pot

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.
Today’s question is:
Who is the hardest person on your Christmas list to shop for?
For me, it’s my Dad. He’s a very simple person who pretty much has everything he needs. Whenever we ask him what he wants, he’ll say, “Ah, no need!”, which is pidgin for “It’s okay, you don’t need to get me anything.”

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday. Today’s question is:
What is your favorite store and/or online site for holiday shopping?
My favorite would have to be Target and Ikea. However, since we don’t have those stores here in Hawaii, I’m always shopping at Amazon.com.

What is your worst bad habit?
For me it would have to be procrastination. I always put things off till the last minute and then have to scramble around like a Mad Woman to get it done. Luckily, I work well under pressure!

I had intended on avoiding the stores at all costs, however, I saw in an ad that WalMart was selling bath towels for $2 each. I thought I’d embroider Girlie Girl’s classmates names on them for Christmas gifts. Then I’m on a plane headed for Seattle. Brrrr!

My friend Kailani is hosting another episode of Aloha Friday! Her idea is that you post a question on your blog each Friday. Each person is encouraged to join in the fun by posting your own question on your blog. Be sure to visit the Aloha Friday Headquarters and answer Kailani's question and sign up on her Linky. My question for this week is very much related to what is happening in my world:Have you ever had a dream that seemed unattainable, but you accomplished this dream anyway? If so, what was that dream and what did you overcome to accomplish it?***Maggie asked how I would answer this question... I would have to say that expressing my artistic side has been a dream that I felt was unattainable because I was very self-conscious about my art. This is directly related to my childhood I know.Ten years ago I started writing 2 books but stopped because I gave up, I felt like the plot was not good enough for each. Eight years ago I dreamed of starting a business where I sold baby quilts
Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.
There seems to be some confusion as to how this works. Basically, if you’d like to participate, just answer the posted question in comments. Then write a post on your blog with your own question for participants to answer. However, please feel free to use my question if you wish. Just keep in mind that most people would have probably already answered it here. Don’t forget to sign the Mr.Linky so people know where to go when making the rounds. Simple!
Here’s this week’s question:
Complete this sentence - “I hope that today . . . “
BTW, please feel free to comment even if you’re not participating.
Sure, the dollar has been creeping up, but after years of a sub-par loonie, having real buying power in the U.S. still comes as a bit of a shock.Long lines at the border show no shortage of day trippers splurging on clothes and electronics, but for my money, now's the time to do a trip to a U.S. hot spot, and do it right. For trips to Hawaii, Holiday House offers a wide selection of hotels, car rentals, sightseeing options and airlines, as well as a number of special promotions, including "nights free" offers at ResortQuest, Outrigger, OHANA, Starwood (Sheraton and Westin) and Marriott and Renaissance properties.

What’s your favorite thing about Fall?
I’m putting this up a little early since I’ll be on the first plane tomorrow morning to attend my Grandmother’s funeral in Maui. Words cannot express my gratitude for all your kind words and prayers. Whoever says you can’t make real friends in the blogging world is crazy!
Anyway, welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday! Today’s question is . . .
Do you attend your high school reunions? Why or why not?
One random participant will win a 2008 Hawaiian Pictorial Wall Calendar! Don’t forget to visit each other and make new friends, too!
Welcome to the first edition of Aloha Friday - The Meme.
For those who have no idea what I’m talking about, Aloha Friday is a very popular term used in Hawaii. It’s basically a day where we take it easy and look forward to the upcoming weekend - kind of like T.G.I.F. In keeping with this idea, I thought I would have an Aloha Friday on my blog as well. No long posts, no deep soul searching revelations . . . just a little fun.
To accomplish this, I’ll be posting a simple question or topic of conversation and then opening up the comments to you. If you’d like to join me, just post something on your blog with your own question and then sign the Mr. Linky below. Then we can all go around and visit each other. Simple, huh? (BTW, you can still answer the question even if you’re not participating.)
As an incentive, I’ll be giving away a 2008 Hawaiian Pictorial Wall Calendar to one random participant. The winner will be announced on Monday.

My Grandmother passed away Sunday evening. She was 95 years old.
I keep writing and re-writing this post but the bottom line is . . . I wish I had spent more time with her. I wish I would have made more of an effort to see her, to have my kids get to know her better, but daily life just got in the way. And now it’s too late.
Why is it that it takes something tragic to happen before we realize what we should have been doing all along?
Whatever you’re doing right now, stop and take a moment to appreciate your loved ones. Call someone you’ve been meaning to. Give your children and spouses a hug. Tell someone you love them. Make the most of every day.
A hui hou Grandma.
Aloha Golf is widely regarded as one of the top courses in Andalucia. It is situated just a few miles from Marbella in the famous ‘Golf Valley‘, along with two other well-known championship courses, Las Brisas and Los Naranjos. Aloha is renowned for its thick vegetation, abundance of trees, difficult greens and large number of water hazards. This beautiful course in an attractive setting was designed by Javier Arana and opened in 1975, making it one of the oldest on the Costa. A par 3 course was added afterwards. In recent years a number of improvements have been made, such as the replanting of fairways and upgrades to the clubhouse. Please note that Aloha requires a maximum handicap of 24 for men and 28 for ladies, and is a soft spikes only course.
A peculiar characteristic of Aloha Golf is that all the holes have been given apt names in Euskadi (the language of the Basque region of northern Spain). For instance, the second hole is called ‘uresandi’ meaning lot
Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday. Today’s question is:
If you had to be one of the 7 dwarfs, which one would you be and why?
There’s no question about it, I’d be Sleepy. Why? Because I haven’t had a good night’s sleep in the last 5 years.
I just had a thought, if you’d like to post your own version of Aloha Friday at your blog next week, let me know and maybe we could all link together. All you would need to do is write a simple post and ask a question for your readers to answer. Then we could all go around and visit each other. If there’s enough interest, I’ll put up a Mr. Linky next week. It would be fun to see what kind of questions you all come up with!

Could the NFL draft be moving to Hawaii? It’s possible. Aloha Stadium has begun discussions with the NFL about the idea of someday holding the draft there. Two years ago the NFL moved the draft out of Madison Square Garden for the first time in 10 years and the league has said that in the future it will consider moving the draft out of New York altogether.
A move to Hawaii would have it’s benefits. Fans would get another chance to see Chris Berman wear Hawaiian shirts and the fresh island air would do wonders for Mel Kiper’s hair.
If you have ever had the great fortune to visit Hawaii, you know that the entire state is imbued with the "Aloha" spirit. It's that almost indefinable attitude of goodwill and friendliness that you find on every street corner or inch of beach. The lovely ladies greeting us at Roy's, Roy Yamaguchi's Philadelphia outpost, exuded that spirit from my first interaction with one of them on the phone. When they turned out to be 2 out of 3 triplets, somehow that added to the fun. (The third triplet, much to the chagrin of one of my dining partners - a single and very male male - is a boy. That busted alot of his fantasies.)Anyway, we (my husband and I) awaited our friend at the bar, a smallish but well-designed area with high round tables and chair-stools that were surprisingly comfortable. My Roy's Cosmo was everything it should have been. VERY COLD, glass VERY FULL, a good balance between the top end Ketel One Citron and cranberry and lime juices. The beer was served in an ice cold glass

It’s snowing in Hawaii!
Well, okay . . . not really.
Every year, on the first weekend in December, we go to see a local holiday production called The Christmas Gift of Aloha. It’s Girlie Girl’s favorite and she makes me play the soundtrack over and over again. This year they had fake snow falling during the performance. It’s the closest we’ll get to the real thing! It was pretty cool, though. We were covered in it!
Here is a short (1 minute) video of one of the songs called Magic of Aloha.
This year I decided to plan ahead and bought tickets for her to ride on a train that’s in a parade following the show. They go on sale early in the morning about a month in advance. Boy, the things we do for our kids. It was totally worth it, though. When we were driving home, she said, “Mommy, this is my best day ever.”
