      ALCOHOLISM AND ADDICTION TREATMENT
There are a number of different types of treatment for alcoholism and drug addiction; some have been shown to work much better than others. With the exception of extreme cases which would make such factors as intervention and close monitoring necessary for the health, safety, and well-being of the individual or others, the best method of treatment involves the person getting the help he needs in dealing with his problem, while not being cut off from his general everyday life. In this manner, the person does not lose sight of the fact that daily life goes on and he is to be a part of it, while at the same time being able to give his recovery process the attention that it needs. For most alcoholics and addicts, Twelve-Step meetings and mental health counseling provide sufficient basis for recovery. Some people have been so severely taken over by alcohol that if they can not get their hands on it, they might turn to other ways of finding that buzz they are hoping for, sometimes these things can be deadly. Believe it or not alcoholics that can not come up with the money to buy themselves more, may end up drinking large quantities of over the counter liquid medications for cold or flu, like nyquil, other people may choose to go so far as to drink, rubbing alcohol, or even antifreeze, hoping for some kind of buzz. They just become desperate when they feel those urges and are possibly suffering from withdrawal of alcohol, if they have not had any in awhile. I believe these are the ones who should check themselves into a drug rehab center. Being seen more as a social problem, many lack the courage to step out to receive help and there are those who fear social discrimination or criticism on their condition. We all know that families and lives are destroyed by this drinking problem and as I read some articles on alcohol rehab, it brings to my understanding that treatment should be sought for anyone suffering from alcohol addiction. Alcoholism and Co-dependency
One of the biggest reason that the person around the alcoholic becomes co-dependent is because the alcoholics usually have a very strong tendency to blame all of their problems on the ones around them. "You made me feel bad, now it is your fault that I am going to drink", "You are selfish, it is your fault I drink", "No, I am not the one with a problem, YOU are", "You were not there for me, that is why I drink", etc.Denial is the sister to co-dependency. The person living with one with the sickness wants more than anything for the person to open her or his eyes so that he or she can see her/his own problems and maybe take some action into solving them. When the denial in the sick person stays strong, the other person might start doubting her or himself, maybe the alcoholic is right? Maybe it is me? Maybe it actually is my fault? Maybe if I change myself I can get him/her to stop drinking? At that point you have given yourself powers that you don´t have. You have taken a responsibilit

How often do you see people discussing the principles laid out in the Big Book? You must me lucky if you happen to be in one. There are people who think AA is just going to meetings don't have a clue of what AA is about. It all depends on the person who is chosen to be the discussion leader. This is especially true for stationary (non-portable) items like televisions, desktop computers, or home theater systems - there is hardly anything that can cause malfunctioning at a later stage. IV story in Alcoholics Anonymous Edition I to illustrate the 12 steps of AA.Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. The drinking ended the morning after I got there, but the suffering continued for some time. I felt desperate and I questioned my ability to really avail myself of the help that the others had received and applied so successfully. Gradually, however, God began to clear my channels so that real understanding began to come. Then was the time when full realization and acknowledgment came to me. It was realization and acknowledgment of the fact that I was full of self-pity and resentment, realization of the fact that I had not fully given my problems to God. I was still trying to do my own fixing. That was several years ago. Since then, although circumstances are no different, for there are still trials and hardships and hurts and disappointments and disillusionments, self-pity and resentment are being eliminated. In this past year I haven't been tempted o

The European Drinker to illustrate step 3:"Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him."As always middle of the story:Then occurred the event that saved me. An alcoholic came to see me who is a doctor. He didn't talk like a preacher at all. In fact his language was perfectly suited to my understanding. He had no desire to know anything except whether I was definite about my desire to quit drinking. I told him with all the sincerity at my command that I did.He went on talking and told me that he had found the plan has a basis of love and the practice of Christ's injunction, "Love thy neighbor as thyself." Taking that as a foundation, he reasoned that if a man followed that rule he could not be selfish. I could see that. And he further said that God could not accept me as a sincere follower of His Divine Law unless I was ready to be thoroughly honest about it.That was perfectly logical. My church taught that. I had always known that in th

This is the 2nd Story (The Unbeliever) as that appeared in AA edition 1.Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity (fulfilled by 10th step promises).from the middle of the story:What! An incurable disease? Doc, you' re kidding me! You're trying to scare me into stopping! What's that you say? You wish you were? What are those tears in your eyes Doc? What's that? Forty years you've spent at this alcoholic business and you have yet to see a true alcoholic cured? Your life defeated and wasted? Oh, come, come Doc . . . what would some of us do without you? What's that Doc? You know a couple of fellows that were steady customers here that haven't been drunk for about ten months? You say they claim they are cured? And they make an avocation of passing it on to others? What have they got? You don't know . . . and you don't believe they are cured . . . well why tell me about it? A fine fellow you say, plenty of money, and you're sure it isn't a rack

Phoenix alcoholism treatment program: Stories in Alcoholics Anonymous - Edition 1
Bill W was a great teacher, he always used examples to drive his point across. To describe power of the fellowship, he used the example of survivors of the ship wreck. To illustrate the ramification of not embracing the 12 steps of AA, he added stories of JIM and FRED who took step 1, 2 and 3 but don't follow-through and end up drunk (More About Alcoholism). The stories at the back of the book are included for a reason, to relate to a step in sequence. The first story"The Doctors' Nightmare" was included for of course to illustrate that Dr Bob the powerlessness (The problem). Dr Bob was trying to fix himself but didn't know the problem:"About the time of the beer experiment I was thrown in with a crowd of people who attracted me because of their seeming poise, health, and happiness. They spoke with great freedom from embarrassment, which I could never do, and they seemed very much at ease on all occasions and appeared very healthy. More than these attributes, they seemed to be happy. I

      Phoenix Alcoholism Treatment
I was down at the corner of Osborn and 16th Street today and a man was drunk and passed out in the street. The people that I was with laughed and thought it was funny. The man *might* have been hit by a car he was bleeding. But he was so drunk that you couldn't tell.It really affected me. I didn't think that it was funny. I just turned and walked away. They put an orange cone in the lane where the man was but two cars in a row ran the cone over. The last thing I remember seeing was some bulked-up guy screaming at the drunk man about being passed out in front of his store. We alcoholics are the lowest of the low. We get no pity. Zero.Phoenix alcoholism treatment doesn't get any better than at Crossroads. Come on in, the coffee is strong and the fellowship is real. I hope the drunk guy can make it.Crossroads, Inc. is a non-profit, drug and alcohol recovery, organization located in beautiful Phoenix, Arizona. Arizona Alcoholism Treatment Center
So, what do you think the problem with Lindsay Lohan is? That is the question they asked me when I was on television last week. First, I think our media may have a problem in that they do not understand what addiction is. I think they want the answer to be simple-kind of like when Nancy Reagan said "Just say no". Do fancy expensive treatment centers work? Yes. Do low budget inexpensive halfway houses work? Yes. They will all work IF we work it! So if Lindsay comes to a Arizona alcoholism treatment center, she will do just fine as long as she is willing. You can do it, girl!Crossroads, Inc. is a non-profit, drug and alcohol recovery, organization located in beautiful Phoenix, Arizona. Phoenix alcoholism treatment program: Working the 10th Step
"Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it"How do we work this step?Well, studying the Big Book with the aid of Joe and Charlie tapes we could conclude that by working the 10th step we are inherently working steps 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 every minute. Here is how they break it down:"This thought brings us to Step Ten, which suggests we continue to take personal inventory and continue to set right any new mistakes as we go along. We vigorously commenced this way of living as we cleaned up the past. We have entered the world of the Spirit. Our next function is to grow in understanding and effectiveness. This is not an overnight matter. It should continue for our lifetime. Continue to watch for selfishness, dishonesty, resentment, and fear (4th Step). When these crop up, we ask God at once to remove them (6th and 7th). We discuss them with someone immediately (5th step) and make amends quickly if we have harmed anyone (8th and 9th). Phoenix Alcoholism & Alcohol Abuse Afflicts 30% of Population
Despite over a hundred years of research and scores of potential treatments, alcoholism remains America's most common addiction and the most notoriously difficult to overcome.According to a new study released this in July by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, more than thirty percent of American adults have abused alcohol at some point in their lives or suffer from alcoholism. The same study says that only 25% of those afflicted received any treatment. And other studies show that, at best, only a small percentage of those who seek treatment manage to abstain from alcohol for a year."Alcohol problems are not just something that affects Hollywood stars," said Dr. Robert Swift, a psychiatrist at Brown University who specializes in alcoholism. "We're talking about a chronic, relapsing condition. And we still have a long way to go in treatment. It's like treatment of cancer-some people can be helped but others just cannot."Science is learning that alcoholism, like add

Arizona Alcoholism Treatment Center - 12 Steps of AA embedded in Bills Story
The basic intent of writing the book Alcoholic Anonymous was primarily to show PRECISELY how Bill W and the first 100 Alcoholics recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. If you watch each story carefully, the theme would be consistent. Introduction to the character, how and what went through the mind of the main player to gets hooked to Alcohol. And how the key figure loses control of liquor consumption and becomes powerless. Eventually the story would illustrate how they recovered from Alcoholism.Though all stories follow the same pattern, Bill's Story demonstrates the working of the 12 steps of AA by Bill W (In Towns hospital).(I do not want to take too much of space here, but want to highlight the key parts of Bills' journey prior to hitting the 'bottom'):In the midst of the excitement I discovered liquor. I forgot the strong warnings and the prejudices of my people concerning drink......Drink was taking an important and exhilarating part in my life.....The re

Phoenix Alcoholism Treatment Center - Do You Need It? Pt. 4
Take a look at this poor guy. He's not like the others. At a party he goes on a spree and exceeds the norms for even that environment. He winds up making a fool of himself and going even beyond that into anesthesia. Surgery could probably be performed on this guy and he wouldn't wake up. Did you know that alcohol and ether share almost identical chemical compositions? In the American Civil War, when they ran out of ether, they would get the wounded drunk before putting them under the knife. But you have to drink a LOT to become like this guy above.Everybody else at the party had fun and left with their girlfriends (or boyfriends) except this guy. He wound the punchline of the party. The buffoon. The fool. No girl for this guy, they've scrawled "Gay Pride" across his chest. What nice friends he has. He's marked as "different" now.Are you tired of being the punchline? The buffoon? The fool? There is a way out. If you live in Arizona, Crossroads is a fantastic Phoenix Alcoholism Treat

      Arizona alcoholism recovery
I just listened to my sponsor share at a Crossroads meeting. He was celebrating 27 years of sobriety today! You might think his message about Arizona alcoholism recovery would be complicated, involve lots of Psychiatry, medications, whatever. But his message was one of simple action-go to lots of meetings, work with a sponsor, help others, and lead a good life. Many newcomers at the meeting just shook their head because they had a hard time believing recovery could be so simple. Isn't it just our nature to want the answer to be so complicated? I am grateful today that I understand the nature of my problem, and more importantly I have a clear idea of the solution."Therefore nothing can matter more to the future welfare of AA than the manner in which we use this colossus of communication. Used unselfishly and well, the results can surpass present imagination."-Bill W., AA Grapevine 1960

      Minimizing Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism
Alcohol abuse and alcoholism are major problems that are often minimized or overlooked as not being part of the”war on drugs.” Administration have distracted, focused on drugs, often forgetting to include alcohol as a drug. Excessive alcohol consumption is the third leading preventable cause of death in the United Sates and is associated with multiple adverse health consequences, including liver cirrhosis, various cancers, unintentional injuries, and violence. (Centers for Disease Control 2004) Alcohol is the most devastating drug we know of today in terms of the sheer number of people it affects. Estimates indicate that there are more than 12 million alcoholics in the United States and that significant number of other people meet the criteria for alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence. Alcohol is integrated into the fabric of mainstream American lifestyle, causing many people to minimize its impact and cost to our society. It has been estimated that business and industry los
