For all revolutionaries, being able to imagine a future society is very important. This isn't simply because we need to have something to struggle for, but it is important because we have to be able to show that an alternative is possible. If a new form of society does not work on an intellectual level, who will be prepared to join the battle to create it.

Childish superstition: Einstein's letter makes view of religion relatively clear. A little known letter written by Albert Einstein indicated that the theoretical physicist was no supporter of religious beliefs, which he regarded as "childish superstitions". Einstein wrote the letter on 3 January 1954 to the philosopher Eric Gutkind who had sent him a copy of his book Choose Life: The Biblical Call

The great scientist's views on religion have long been debated, with many seizing upon phrases such as "He [God] does not throw dice" as evidence that he believed in a creator. But the newly-unveiled letter, a response to the philosopher Eric Gutkind, has cast doubt on the theory that Einstein had any belief in God at all towards to the end of his life. In the letter, dated January 3 1954, he wrote

Here are some insightful quotes by the revered physicist Albert Einstein. I used an echo statement to act as a delimiter, especially towards the bottom of the list. I do not know who Kevin Harris is but it must have taken him awhile to compile this list. echo "Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction." echo "Imagination is more important than knowledge." echo "Gravitation is not responsible for people falling in love." echo "I want to know God's thoughts; the rest are details." echo "The hardest thing in the world to understand is the income tax." echo "Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one." echo "The only real valuable thin

Albert Hofmann, the Father of LSD, Dies at 102 By CRAIG S. SMITH PARIS — Albert Hofmann, the mystical Swiss chemist who gave the world LSD, the most powerful psychotropic substance known, died Tuesday at his hilltop home near Basel, Switzerland. He was 102. The cause was a heart attack, said Rick Doblin, founder and president of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, a California-based group that in 2005 republished Dr. Hofmann's 1979 book "LSD: My Problem Child." Dr. Hofmann first synthesized the compound lysergic acid diethylamide in 1938 but did not discover its psychopharmacological effects until five years later, when he accidentally ingested the substance that became known to the 1960s counterculture as acid. He then took LSD hundreds of times, but r

However, these days, it's possible to imagine that this message was machine-generated. In your books, Holding On to Reality and How We Became Posthuman you both discuss how we got to this point. Albert Einstein (1879-1955) - The Nobel Prize in Physics 1921. The German-American physicist Albert Einstein contributed more than any other scientist to the 20th-century vision of physical reality. In the wake of World War I, Einstein's theories--especially his theory of relativity--seemed to many people to point to a pure quality of human thought, one far removed from the war and its aftermath.
