This post is not to provide information necessarily, but to seek information. Does anyone in the local area know anything about a crime at the intersection of Alamo and South Florida Avenue late Saturday night/early Sunday morning, October 18/19?
Our newspaper carrier told me they would have been out to deliver sooner, but Alamo was closed from South Florida to Harden Blvd. She said that the
Alamo Car Rental - Focus on Vacationersby Kurt SchefkenAlamo Car Rental is a popular car rental company based in the U.S. The name would suggest that it started long ago in Texas but that's not the case. First off I would like to thank the owner of this blog for allowing me to write on here. This will be the first in hopefully a series of articles that I will write on this blog. If anything I write interests you or if you would like to read more articles written by me on a variety of topics please visit my blog @ http://nebraskacurt.blogspot.com now on with the chaos that is my mind ;) From day to day I go about my business as an average middle class caucasion American citizen. I like to think of myself as a reasonably intelligent person and enjoy the freedom of speech that so many have given the ultimate sacrifice for me to have. I consider myself a patriot but not a blind patriot. The difference that I see between the two are as follows: a blind patriot is loyal to his/her country, is proud of its heritage and history, accepts all that his/her government tells them and almost never questions what their government and/or appointed officials tells them, defends f
San Antonio's Mission San Jose (Photo by Ron Franscell)Any excuse for me to visit San Antonio is a good excuse, and when it's to sign "FALL: The Rape and Murder of Innocence in a Small Town," it's the best excuse ever! If you are in -- or anywhere near -- San Antonio this weekend, please drop by my book-signing 2-4 p.m. at Barnes & Noble at San Pedro Crossing, 321 Northwest Loop 410.Great reviews for FALL keep rolling in. Look at these from this week:"Ron Franscell's FALL gets everything right: Casper, Wyoming in the boom-town 1970's, the effect of an unspeakable crime on an entire generation of residents, and a diligent search for why it happened when the only answer can only be true evil. I know he got it right because I was there. I remember Amy Burridge and Becky Thomson before the crime and Becky after. I remember the names "Kennedy and Jenkins" spoken only with naked hatred and contempt. And I remember where I was when I heard how Becky dealt with the horror and violenc
disclaimer:I had an entire post ready to go in my head based on a little slip of paper that little miss must-not-have-clutter me THREW OUT. So... this post will not be as good since I can't direct quote from this little piece of paper... but oh well I'm a throw caution to the wind kind a gal...We just completed our fruit sales fund raiser for the kids school...see this fruit... in particular the oranges? well a little piece of paper came in the box saying something to the effect of:"The oranges in this box are not from California. they are from Texas. because of the extreme freeze in California we were unable to get the beautiful, delicious, gorgeous oranges you are used to. we apologize for the inconvenience of having small, ugly, not as good, full of seeds and hard to peel oranges that came from Texas."Offended Texas farmers? I think yes.http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h305/tmndsrhjhn_photos/6.jpg
Dan Brown writes about the impact of NCLB on his 4th grade classroom in the Bronx. His slice of life ran in the Huffington Post."P.S. 85, like most public schools in poor neighborhoods, is desperately short on quality teachers and classes beyond the bare bones; art and music are nonexistent for most classes and a rare period of physical education runs like a farce...""...Eddie is going through his fourth year in fourth grade because of rampant absences and standardized test failures. I need to get him engaged in school, somehow invested in his own achievement. He loves to draw and has a remarkable, natural talent for perspective sketching. I want to take down some of the mandated bulletin board material in order to put up an exhibit for his art. If he is recognized for his talent, maybe he'll be more inclined to participate in his education. But the last time I tried to finesse the bulletin board mandates, I got reamed by my compliance-obsessed assistant principal. How can I help Edd
In an interesting tidbit of news, the San Antonio Express-News has stated that it will no longer participate in voting for the top 25 in college football and basketball. They claim that they don't like how the Associated Press 'mistreated' a New Orleans reporter who filed a football poll this year, believing that the Oklahoma Sooners lost a game that they in fact won. The reporter overhead
