      Smokey: Alabama State Troopers
Ahhh yes, Alabama's finest. If you have ever had the fortune (or, as in some cases, misfortune) to encounter our Alabama Highway Safety Officers, you always get greeted, initially, with warmth and respect. Of course, they expect the same from you. I suspect the State Trooper I saw handcuffing a young man at a convenience store last night didn't receive the respect the officer felt warranted.

      Alabama: Pardon, Parole, Whatever.
In July of 2006, John Faulk was drinking and driving a speedboat in a restricted area and, as a consequence, hurt eight people and killed one Michael Haslam (who was sitting on a pontoon boat). Faulk's unsuccessful defense was that he consumed a large amount of alcohol after the accident, while waiting for the police to arrive on the scene. On Monday, a pastor, college pals, friends and family requested leniency from Judge Ben Fuller. Faulk's mother put is this way: "Please give him a pardon or parole or whatever. We don't want him to go to prison or jail." Fuller responded with a 30-month sentence split so that Faulk will serve 18 months in jail for the most serious charge and a year concurrently for misdemeanor assault charges. The victim's wife says the sentence is too light and remains

The beat them in being the place to be and emerging to become yet another destination state in the South. How do we know? According to an article, Alabama Becoming A Destination State in South by Erin Stock of the Birmingham News, it is based on net migration. Since then though the growth has been steady with 5,009 new residents in 2002-2003, 16,445 new residents in 2004-2005, and  18,427 in 2006-2007. According to the article one

For A Good Pizza Call Dave: Dave's Pizza in Homewood, Alabama
The addiction for us began just a few years after they opened their doors in 1993. For a while there we went almost every week. I am sure our welcome was well worn out.  So, you can imagine, when we had the opportunity to partner with Dave's Pizza, we jumped right at it! One of the reasons we enjoyed Dave's so much was because it was not one of the big chains. Dave's, which opened in 1993, is family owned and operated in Homewood, and ALL  the ingredients are made in house; the dough is made fresh daily and the veggies are sliced fresh daily as well so you know you are not just getting another pizza, you are getting the best!Their family friendly atmosphere with Alfresco dining, great music, and an above average beverage list is perfect for a special night out for two up to all sorts of

"Good Deals" on Foreclosures in Alabama
Over the past few months we have been getting lots of calls from people asking about foreclosures. Obviously they have been listening to the main stream media and the masses who say that now is the time to get a foreclosure because you can get a "good deal."The problem with this is the definition of "good deal" and what really makes a "good deal."One of the things a lot of these buyers do not seem to realize is that a number of the foreclosures will need some to a lot of work and TLC. Let me add that we are not saying that ALL or MOST of them will, just that some will. This we know is true due to the fact that we have shown some that fit that description.Another thing a lot of buyers do not realize is the concept of "Rights of Recemption."

Blackout of Siegelman 60 Minutes Segment in Alabama
While the vast majority of Americans were watching the Academy Awards (for movies none of us saw) tonight on ABC, CBS aired a long-overdue story about the prosecution of Don Siegelman on 60 Minutes. Don Siegelman is the former Democratic governor of Alabama who is currently serving 7 years in prison for a crime he very well might not have committed. It appears that he was most likely set up by the same Republicans who politicized the United States Justice Department - Karl Rove and his political goons. Here's the segment from 60 Minutes for those of you that missed it (like myself - I'll admit it. I'm a shameless celebra-whore).The people who were probably most interested in this story were the people that voted to make Don Siegelman their governor - the people of Alabama. However, this se

Between the steep, eastern escarpment of the Sierra and the town of Lone Pine are the Alabama Hills. This is the other side of California: the high deserts embraced by endless scenic mountain ranges. Because of its barren beauty - giant granite boulders, windswept grasses, wildflowers and even occasional meandering streams - Alabama Hills have been a constant filming location for the big screen, television, and even video games. Close to 500 movies have been made here, dating back from 1920 ("Cupid the Cowpuncher" with Will Rogers), all the way to the present ("Adventures in Wild California" in IMAX). Birmingham Alabama is Looking On The Bringht Side
Last week an article came out in the Birmingham News pointing out a drop in sales for the month of September. In BIG print it read, "Month's Sales Drop 15%..." Let's read on though, because things may not be as bad as it seems. Let's look on the bright side.To be "fair and balanced" let's look at both sides of the equation though. Sales are down, it is true. There is no denying this because the numbers back it up. Comparing September 2006 against September 2007 you will see that sales were down from 1,523 in 2006 to 1,283 in 2007. For the year we are down as well from 14,473 in 2006 to 13,942 in 2007 so far. But, the median price is up. In September of 2006 the median sales price was $159,000 and it is now up to $164,200 in September of 2007. New home sales have fallen probably the most. Sales volume in September of 2006 was 7.8 months and is up to 9.2 months of September of 2007.Now, let's look on the bright side. Last year, 2006, was a banner year for our area. We continue to d

The first time you walk out, we had an unbelievable crowd here today, I think the first half we were a little worried about doing this and doing that instead of just competing and defending. Second half we defended better. Almost on every one of our baskets, it led from a pass. That tells you that your kids are being unselfish. The more we play together, the better we’re going to be. The first game is, you know we’ll break the film down, edit it and learn from our mistakes and just keep getting better.” “Second half I thought was outstanding. First half I think it was due to jitters and nervousness. People forget we have four freshman who are playing for their first time ever. I don’t care how good you are, a freshman’s a freshman.
