      Airport Security and Your Pet
Airport Security and Your Pet When going through airport security with a pet, you will be required to take your pet out of its carrier and hold it while the carrier is scanned. There appears to be no flexibility on this. So be sure that you have a strong collar, leash, and id tags on your pet. If yours is like ours and will panic in a crowd, you might try taking a pillow case to put it in while you wait for the carrier to come through. It usually only takes a minute for the carrier to be screened, but that is too long for our cat! We haven't tried the pillow case at an airport yet, so the authorities may not permit using it, but it definitely works at the vet for controlling the animal.By: Kathryn Hunter

      Hassle Free Airport Security
When going through the airport security you can notice who is an experienced traveler and who it getting on his first flight since 9/11. As an experienced traveler, I do everything possible to go through the security checkpoint as quick as possible: Emptying my pockets in advance (cell, wallet, BlackBerry, etc) and putting everything in my laptop bag. Having the liquids bag ready outside my carry-on Shoes with no shoelaces etc. This Thursday I flew back from Cleveland to Raleigh, and when I got in line to go through security I started the regular ritual that you would do without thinking already: Take out your laptop, shoes, etc. When the TSA agent saw me do that he told me "Sir, you don't have to take your laptop out", and my first reaction was to look at my boarding pass to see if I was "randomly selected..." by checking if I have SSSS on my boarding pass which I didn't. I asked the agent what does it mean I don't need to take out the laptop, and

      Airport security still below par
Six months after receiving low grades from international experts, Airports of Thailand (AoT) still can't make up its mind on how it should improve Suvarnabhumi airport's security.AoT still says it is open to all possible options, and has taken no action to upgrade the problem.A highly-placed source at the AoT said the AoT board will meet yet again next Thursday and evaluate the performance of the Loxley-ICTS consortium, its contractor responsible for the security of Suvarnabhumi airport.Last Jan 6, AoT claimed it had "addressed" security problems, threatening the Loxley-ICTS team that it might terminate its contract. At that time, there were strong fears over airport security because of the New Year's bombing in Bangkok.Up to now, the consortium has failed to meet its contractual obligations. AoT has already given the consortium a chance to make improvements and the consortium's performance will be evaluated for the second time tomorrow.Previously, the consortium scored well in the

Worst Case of Being Detained by Airport Security -- Guaranteed
I am in airports once a month and have the opportunity to encounter a few moronic TSA agents like the ones featured in this real life horror story. They are so insecure that they feel the need to exert their “authority” over helpless passengers, including former Secret Service agents with their toddlers, like in this case.Lesson here, folks, is ALWAYS recognize that TSA agents can get away with almost anything and justify it. My guess is they could even shoot and kill you and be absolved, all under the guise of “protecting national security.” If you are an irascible type like me, this can get you into trouble. So ALWAYS be nice to TSA agents. Do what they say, even if it doesn’t make any sense, and the person who tells you to do it is the biggest imbecile in the world. Just smile and grit your teeth. Avoid any tone or words that might irritate them in the least, as they can literally make your life a living hell, AND be able to get away with it.Just realize tha

      Airport security and econ 101
Airports are starting to roll out an option for travelers that would allow them to pay $100, give background and personal data to avoid the long lines at airport security. Here's the gist,These travelers, who paid a $100 fee and underwent a background check to be part of a test program, bypassed the line and stepped into what may be a glimpse of the future — they inserted a biometric identification card into a kiosk that scanned their irises and their fingerprints to verify their identity, placed a fingertip on an explosives scanning device and stood on a scanning platform that determined whether their footwear hid a bomb.Long time readers (Hi Ma!) know that if Benjamin "Penny saved is a penny earned" Franklin is right, then I'm a $100 richer. But lets look at the value process. Here's what has value. Your privacy, your time, $100. Company's pay big bucks for your private info, and you can bet that your background test and biometric info are fair game for the Feds, and I'd re

AIRPORT SECURITY: DON'T TAKE IT PERSONALLY
Good evening ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. Thank you for flying British Airways Flight 324 nonstop from London to New York. We are still awaiting our security clearance from U.S. authorities, but it's safe to assume that we'll land in New York sometime in the nextmonth or so.If you look to your left, you will see a landmark that attracts more than one million tourists every year. It's called Heathrow Airport. Yes, we haven't yet taken off, as a few astute passengers have noticed. Needless to say, we would rather wait on the ground than in the air -- it's so much easier to get a refill. You won't believe how fast we go through our liquor cart. The weather in New York is cold and breezy, with a 30 percent chance of snow. But why am I telling you that? By the time we get there, it might be summer.Of course, there is still a possibility the status of this flight will be changed to "delayed indefinitely" from its current status of "delayed definitely." If that ha
