GENEVA (AFP) — Rival aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing put aside their differences and signed an agreement on Tuesday to work together to cut the impact of air traffic on the environment. The rare cooperation between the European and American giants was announced on the sidelines of the third aviation and environment summit in Geneva, where leading industry groups made a commitment to work against pollution. The agreement between the two manufacturers will see them working together to push for global inter-operability in air traffic management to optimise efficiencies.
The Airbus A380 could soon have the option of being fitted out with male urinals. On long haul 747 flights there is always a long queue down the aisle at breakfast time, so this is a good idea for A380's that will eventually be carrying over 600 passengers. Why are there ashtrays in the Airbus A380?: The Airbus A380, which landed in London this week, is being sold as the aircraft of the future. Sam Leith, who was on board, was struck more by an odd reminder of the past. This brand-new cutting-edge plane has been constructed with built-in ashtrays – and, for that matter, wholly redundant, always-illuminated no-smoking signs. When I asked a spokesman for Singapore Airlines, he confessed that even the company's CEO had been baffled as to what they were doing there. The presence of ashtrays, he explained, is still – bizarrely – mandatory under one of the regulations of America's Federal Aviation Authority. If the A380 is the next step in the evolution of commercial travel, its ashtrays are its appendix; its coccyx; its vestigial tail.
Airbus SAS's A380 superjumbo made its first commercial landing in London today, making Heathrow airport the third location to be served by the plane. The Singapore Airlines Ltd. flight arrived in the U.K. capital at about 2:50 p.m. The A380's first customer has been flying two of the 471-seat planes between the southeast Asian city-state and Sydney since October and added the London route after taking delivery of a third.Heathrow, Europe's busiest airport, will be the biggest A380 hub, according to Toulouse, France-based Airbus, with an estimated 90 of the double-decker aircraft operating regularly there by 2020. I said in a previous post that I’m fascinated by aircrafts, any kind of aircrafts, even Delta wing. So, as I said in another post, the Concorde was the plane that caught my interest since long time, however the new Airbus A380 is for me the new wonder of the sky, this air giant is the world's largest passenger aircraft, I think most of you have seen pictures on the internet or by e-mail about this big bird, but if you feel curiosity to see the most important place of the A380, the cockpit of course, I found a website that has a full 360º view of its cockpit. Indonesia's Mandala Airlines will push ahead with a deal to purchase 30 Airbuses despite a minister urging carriers here to boycott EU planes, the company's CEO said Friday. Transport Minister Jusman Syafii Djamal reportedly said Thursday that Indonesian carriers should not buy European aircraft so long as a ban on the nation's 51 airlines flying in EU airspace, introduced in July, remained in place. "The recommendation is obviously not going to affect our deal," Mandala CEO Warwick Brady told AFP."We have ordered 30 Airbuses and we have six on lease already, and are planning to lease six to eight per year until the order comes in. We have paid significant amounts in deposits to confirm our delivery," he said. Mandala announced the deal, which will see first orders arrive in 2011, in June, shortly ahead of the European Union's ban.Brady said he understood the furious Indonesian response and said he too believed the blanket ban should be reconsidered. In a thinly-veiled effort to exploit low-wage and low-cost countries as a production base in order to export their finished products back to more advanced economies at a much higher price, the people at Airbus are considering plans to build a final assembly plant in a place called Mobile, Alabama.
The euro's seemingly unstoppable climb (or dollar’s fall, if you prefer) has put the Airbus mother ship EADS in a bit of a bind these days and has compelled it’s purebred European managers to actually (and even seriously) consider such a regrettable and thoroughly tasteless idea.
According to one unconfirmed report, Airbus would only make such a move if it gets a US Air Force contract for refueling military aircraft (how yucky and distasteful is that?). If the Europeans win the contract, Airbus would then modify its A330 passenger jets to meet US military requirements (they have to be able to fly). Like, will the horror of this ever end or what? Joining the mile high club is probably on the to-do lists of most men (and a fair few women I imagine) so the news today that the new super Airbus A380 set is to be a “no sex zone” will have been a disappointment to many.
Even more surprising is the fact the plane has 12 private suites complete with double beds! Talk about encouraging behaviour you want to ban! The reason they have given is that the suites are ‘not soundproof’ and so could ‘cause embarrassment’. Fair enough, but I don’t suspect it will stop some couples who just can’t risk taking it all off after take off.
If you really want to join the club– there’s no membership pack once you do mind – you could just book a trip on this plane and seal the deal. Happy landings!

Singapore Airlines - first to get Airbus A380 now there are some rumors that this Airbus A380 is being considered by the US Air Force (USAF) as a cargo freighter and as a large VIP transport in the Air Force One class. Apparently EADS answered to two separate inquiries by the USAF’s Air Mobility Command (AMC) about the A380, last summer. The first call was for the data about the A380F Freighter for potential use as a military air lifter. The company will probably make a presentation regarding the same in December to AMC officials. The move (on USAF’S part) may stem from the ongoing review of a potentially over-budget re-engining and reliability improvement programme for the Lockheed Martin C-5 fleet. USAF officials were not immediately available to comment. It is also believed that the AMC had also asked for data regarding three Airbus jets as part of a market survey for “VIP Large Aircraft Recapitalization.” They wanted info on the A380, A340-600 and A3

Ok this clip is uber cool, it shows a test carried out on the Airbus A380 to evacuate 853 passengers and 20 crews out of the plane in under 90 seconds, with only emergency lightings on inside the cabin and 8 of the 16 exits blocked.
They did it in 77 seconds. How often do you see passengers cheering after they have alighted from a jetliner?
Singapore Airlines received the first commercial Airbus A380 today at Airbus’ headquarters in Toulouse, France. The A380 delivery also gives us a glimpes of Singapore Airline’s newest product, the Singapore Airline Suites, as well as improvements in business and economy class.

The seat is fully adjustable, with a simple-to-use electronic control panel to accommodate a variety of sitting and lounging positions. For those who want to sleep, a full-sized flat bed, with plush mattress, is built into each individual Singapore Airlines Suite, and does not utilise

MANILA, Philippines — Airbus’ extra-large A380 jetliner flew into the Philippines on a test flight Thursday to show it can be flown to existing runways in Asia, company officials said.
The A380 flew from Melbourne to the Manila international airport, landing smoothly with room to spare and taxiing to a parking area without a hitch despite its larger size.
“The landing had no troubles at all, absolutely no problem,” said test pilot Peter Chandler at a press conference afterward.

An Airbus A380 demonstration flight in Bangkok operated by Airbus SAS and carrying 150 passengers was delayed for almost four hours today after the aircraft hit a building at the international airport. The plane, scheduled to depart at 9:45 a.m. local time from Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok to the northern city of Chiang Mai, took off at about 1:15 p.m. after engineers removed two winglets attached to the plane, Airbus spokesman Stefan Schaffrath said in Bangkok. The superjumbo jetliner arrived in Bangkok yesterday as part of an eight-day tour of Asian nations, including Hong Kong, Vietnam and South Korea. Airbus, the world's largest maker of commercial aircraft, won certification from European and U.S. authorities in July for the double-decker A380 model to fly into most of the world's major airports.``The aircraft can operate safely without the winglets,'' designed to help save fuel for long hauls, Schaffrath said by mobile telephone on the plane before its departure. ``The damag

==========The HypnotistIt was opening night at the Orpheum and the Amazing Claude was topping the bill. People came from miles around to see the famed hypnotist do his stuff. As Claude took to the stage, he announced, "Unlike most stage hypnotists who invite two or three people up onto the stage to be put into a trance, I intend to hypnotize each and every member of the audience." The excitement was almost electric as Claude withdrew a beautiful antique pocket watch from his coat.I want you each to keep your eye on this antique watch. It's a very special watch. Its been in my family for six generations. He began to swing the watch gently back and forth while quietly chanting, "Watch the watch, watch the watch, watch the watch....".The crowd became mesmerized as the watch swayed back and forth, light gleaming off its polished surface. Hundreds of pairs of eyes followed the swaying watch, until suddenly it slipped from the hypnotist's fingers and fell to the floor, breaking into a hundre

We have been saying that the Airbus A380 superjumbo jet is just too big:The only most successful US airline, Southwest (LUV) earned its success by offering non-stop flights from smaller airports. Rejional jets could open point-to-point non-stop service to an even larger number of even smaller airports - paving the way for the next Southwest.Smaller jets can be loaded and unloaded quickly, saving precious time for passengers and precious money for the operator - who can keep the jets flying (earning money) rather than sitting on the ground (costing money).
Smaller airports allow passengers to pass more quickly through security, further saving time. Plus, greater point-to-point service to more markets means they also save time by not having to connect through hubs.
Lacking the dramatic potential of larger jets, regional jets are likely to be avoided by terrorists.Basically, for most routes passengers won't want to wait for the other 400 passen
The smoke signals have been rising above the horizon for some time now. Emirates Airlines has dropped orders for the ten Airbus 340s it was buying and will go with the Boeing 777 instead. Emirates is also sending some of its folks to Airbus to see whether the European airplane manufacturer will ever actually build the 380 super-jumbo jet. If the visit goes badly, Boeing could pick up some 747 orders as well.
When Boeing announced earnings recently, its stock dropped from about $84 to $80.. Investors were trading the past instead of the future. Never a good thing.
Boeing earnings were down, partly because the company closed its airplane broadband unit. However, sales were up as were airplane deliveries. Boeing also raised guidance for next year.
The folks on Wall St. wanted a little more than Boeing had to offer, and refused to trade the shares higher. Maybe it will take Airbus shutting down for them to see the orders coming Boeing's way.

We were among the many who reported on Airbus' continuing woes with their A-380 Jumbo Jet. Now archrival Boeing aims to capitalize on their misfortune, possibly turning the A-380 into a huge white elephant.
Aero-News Network reports:
In an apparent answer to Airbus' A380, Boeing is stretching the 747-8 to seat 467 pax now. They'll have to pull a little harder to match the massive A380's 550 passengers, but clearly, Boeing believes there's a market for large people carriers.
Not necessarily. They could just be figuring that, as in horseshoes, close will be good enough for many customers. Learning from their success with the 787, Boeing is incorporating some lessons.
Specifically, the Chicago planemaker says the 747-8 is 11% lighter comparing the total weight of the plane to the number of seats, and will consume 10% less fuel per passenger than the A380. It says that translates to a 19% lower trip-cost and a 3% reduction in seat-mile
