ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Bad weather and an airport technical problem stalled Thanksgiving holiday travel on Monday -- and conditions are likely to worsen as Turkey Day nears. At Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, incoming and outgoing flights were halted when two control towers lost radio communications. The delays at the Texas airport consequently delayed flights in other cities across the country.By midday, only incoming flights were delayed.Weather was the culprit at other major airports, the Federal Aviation Administration said.In Georgia, Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport saw flights delayed up to an hour due to heavy fog. Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, California, also was shut down temporarily because of fog.In the Northeast, high winds caused delays at Newark International Airport in New Jersey and LaGuardia Airport in New York.Heavy cloud cover was blamed for delays at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois; Philadelphia International Airport
(CNN) -- Planes crisscrossing the East Coast will have access to military airspace Wednesday afternoon, a handy accommodation as fog and winter weather threaten to make one of the busiest travel days of the year even more tedious. Thousands of miles of airspace usually reserved for the military will become available to commercial airliners at 4 p.m. ET, but it will be up to the Federal Aviation Administration to decide whether to use it. President Bush last week ordered the airspace be made available. The FAA will have the option to use it through Sunday night. David Castelveter, spokesman for the Air Transport Association, the interest group representing major carriers in Washington, said the airspace will be available for planes flying between Florida and Maine. The airspace could be especially helpful if the National Weather Service warnings hold true, Castelveter said. Read more of this story:
Indonesia's national carrier Garuda Airlines will continue to fly in Australian airspace, despite a move by the European Union to ban the carrier, Prime Minister John Howard said on Saturday. The EU this week moved to ban all of Indonesia's 51 airlines, including Garuda, from flying in European air space following a string of safety concerns in recent months. But Mr Howard said his government was satisfied Garuda - the only Indonesian airline traversing Australian airspace - was safe. "We, on my available advice, are satisfied about Garuda," Mr Howard said in Brisbane.

In an article from COPA comes news of upcoming changes to airspace around Greater Toronto Area airports. From July 5, 2007 a Mode C Transponder will be required above 6500MSL from 26nm to 65nm from the centre of the current TCA bullseye. A similar ring has existed around Ottawa for a number of years without a huge negative effect on GA. You should read the full COPA article though for there seems to be more in store for the GTA.
TEHRAN (AFP) - US warplanes have violated Iranian airspace in the southwestern oil province of Khuzestan, the Arabic language channel of Iranian state television quoted a local military chief as saying on Sunday.
However, a US military spokesman said he had checked into reports of an airspace violation and denied that any took place.
“Two US aircraft trespassed into Iranian airspace northwest of (the port city of) Abadan before flying southwest into Iraq,” a Revolutionary Guards commander in Abadan identified only as Colonel Aqili was quoted as saying by the Al-Alam channel’s website.
“The planes left white vapour trails, attracting the local people’s attention,” he said, without elaborating on when the alleged incursion took place.

Yow. I found this at the Uncontrolled Airspace blog."The pilot of N1312R has a slightly dodgy landing at Alton Bay in NH Feb 10 2007. Alton Bay is actually a sea plane base, but in the winter it freezes over and the operator ploughs a runway."Slightly dodgy doesn't really cover it. Any runway with ice on it requires some fairly serious concentration, let alone runways that are made of ice.
