Ahmadinejad: Key Nuke Target of 3,000 Centrifuges Reached
Iran has achieved a landmark, with 3,000 centrifuges fully working in its controversial uranium enrichment program, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced Wednesday. Ahmadinejad has in the past claimed that Iran succeeded in installing the 3,000 centrifuges at its uranium enrichment facility at Natanz. But Wednesday’s claim was his first official statement that the plant is now fully operating all those centrifuges. Experts say 3,000 centrifuges are in theory enough to produce a nuclear weapon, perhaps as soon as within a year. Iran says it plans to expand its enrichment program to up to 54,000 centrifuges at Natanz in central Iran - which would amount to the level of industrial-scale uranium enrichment. -Samantha Giles Share This

In his recent visit to New York Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made a laughing stock of himself, even amongst the left who were already predisposed to like him. His statements that there are no gays in Iran brought laughter from most of the audience. Iran is like the little dog nipping at the heels of people walking by its yard. It makes a lot of noise but has tiny teeth and runs with its tail tucked between its legs the second you turn to confront it. ¿Axis of Evil? | Evo Morales, Hugo Chavez and Ahmadinejad vow to step up fight against U.S. rule
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the Venezuela's Hugo Chavez have agreed to intensify their fight against U.S. world domination, the Venezuelan president said Friday. "We have agreed to follow the same path of fighting against imperialism and to strengthen our cooperation in eliminating America's domination in the world," he said after a meeting with the Iranian president. Chavez described Ahmadinejad as "a great anti-U.S. fighter" and "a champion of truth and social justice." The Iranian leader responded by calling Chavez "a great revolutionary of Latin America." Ahmadinejad, on his third visit to Venezuela, said that imperialism "has no other option but to start respecting the people's choice, or it is doomed." Hugo Chavez has made five visits to Tehran, the last in July 2007. He has repeatedly stated his support for Iran's nuclear research program. Ahmadinejad met earlier Friday with Bolivian President Evo Morales, signing a $1 billion trade and energy cooperat

Bollinger, Ahmadinejad, and Free Speech (Plus, What Bollinger Should Have Said)
In a week dominated by free speech issues, the conflict at Columbia University between President Lee Bollinger and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad help clarify what we mean by free speech in America. Basically, free speech has two dimensions: one constitutional, one cultural. They are related but separate. For example, Ed Koch at Yahoo News has it all wrong: In his defense, Bollinger’s supporters constantly invoke the concepts of free speech and the First Amendment. But in this case they simply don’t apply. The First Amendment to the United States Constitution reads as follows: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” No government action was taken to stop Columbia and Bollinger from extending the invitation and holding the event as the

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: We have no gays in Iran
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad very effectively made a laughing stock of himself at Columbia University when he insisted there are no gays in Iran. Ahmadinejad Kills in New York, Launches North American Comedy Tour
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was an unexpected hit at Columbia University on Monday. "He's like the Iranian Yakov Smirnoff," said one attendee. "Except funny."At first it looked like Ahmadinejad was going to bomb. "Let me tell a joke here," Ahmadinejad began. "I think the politicians who are after atomic bombs, or testing them, making them, politically they are backward, retarded."The audience could only shrug and assume that the joke was funnier in Farsi.Soon, however, the ruler of the repressive, theocratic police state hit his stride, pretending to be angry at Israel for "persecuting" Palestinians. His explanation of Iran's nuclear program was also a hit. "Our nuclear program is for energy, not weapons," he deadpanned.Ahmadinejad, whose dry, absurdist wit has provoked comparisons to Steven Wright and Norm MacDonald, clearly is not afraid to take risks with his material. The nuclear energy joke, for example, relies on the audience's understanding that Iran sits on t

How the Democrats Lost the 2008 Election in Three Weeks: From Moveon.org, to Liberals Siding with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad over Lee Bollinger
The Democrats just lost the 2008 election. They will not be able to overcome the Far-Left’s insanity. Stick a fork in them; they are done.If it was not bad enough that Moveon.org attacked 4-star General Petraeus, calling him ‘General Betray Us,’ Moveon.org has continued their disgraceful antics over the last few weeks. Consequently, many Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, were forced to take the indefensible position of siding against those who are trying to secure Iraq.We have heard from an unnamed insider that the Democrats in Congress are furious over the Moveon.org ad. While many Democrats really believe that the War in Iraq is wrong, some of them are actually patriotic Americans who support General Petraeus, Jim Webb comes to mind. But, Moveon.org has taken over the Party, contributing more money than the NRA, and the Democrats are powerless to stop them. Now let us go forward one week. Lesson in Leadership - Ahmadinejad
President Ahmadinejad of Iran spoke the other night at Columbia University. After listening to various news accounts that seem to tell different stories about the same event I watched a taped account on C-SPAN that evening. What I saw was very different from either the left or right wing media had portrayed. Perhaps it was because I was able to see for myself that I could form my own opinion of the event. My opinion of the man did not really change. He did nothing, and said nothing that made me feel better about him. To deny that the Holocaust happened is tantamount to saying the world is flat. We know for certain the world is not flat, we do not need any more study on that aspect of it. What can be learned from this event? How was the opportunity handled by both sides that is instructive? Was there a moment during the dialogue that you should have noted?

Ahmadinejad knows the power of boldfaced lies
When Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lies to an audience at Columbia University and states that “there are no homosexuals in Iran” it isn’t the lie that matters, it is the persistence with which he tells such lies. When Mahmoud Ahmadinejad refuses to answer “yes” or “no” to a simple question — “Did the holocaust happen?” — it is the opportunity for him to call out for “justice” for the “Palestinian people”, all in the hopes of making more people forget that the Jews have a right to own their own nation, and in hopes of making people believe that there ever was a nation called Palestine (which there was not). The power of boldfaced lies repeated often enough or even unspoken but implied are historically potent and deadly. Hitler was a master of propaganda and so is Ahmadinejad. But it goes far, far beyond just Ahmadinejad. Islam itself is the ultimate of lies. So, if Islam itself is a false religion, why

      Ahmadinejad: No homosexuals in Iran
I guess that's almost correct, in a way. The mullahs have tried to kill them all. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad gave a speech at Columbia University yesterday (and today he will ook-ook before the United Nations), and here are some of his unenlightened opinions from that event. First concerning the plight of homosexuals in Iran: In Iran we don't have homosexuals like in your country. We don't have that like in your country. ... In Iran we do not have this phenomenon. I don't know who's told you that we have this. And the Holocaust: My question was simple: There are researchers who want to approach the topic from a different perspective. Why are they put into prison? Right now, there are a number of European academics who have been sent to prison because they attempted to write about the Holocaust or research it from a different perspective, questioning certain aspects of it. My question is: Why isn't it open to all forms of research? It is certainly true that Holocaust deniers should n

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at Columbia University: Where Liberal Cultural Relativism Meets Objective Intolerance
While liberals pride themselves for being the champions of tolerance, how do they respond when other cultures denigrate women and homosexuals? It is wonderful to watch this cognitive dissonance unfold. At what point do liberals start making objective determinations of right and wrong? At what point do liberals say that burying a 16-year-old girl to her neck in dirt, and subsequently stoning her to death is not an acceptable form of cultural expression?Ironically, liberals consider conservatives evil because many conservatives support the military’s don’t ask, don’t tell policy. Yet, it is amazing that these same liberals are apathetic when Iran hangs, stones, and beheads homosexuals. Moreover, Iran is one of the few Countries in the World that executes children. When confronted with this clear hypocrisy, liberals simply resort to bashing President Bush. If they don’t attack Bush, they attack America for being an evil Country. I am telling you, these people have been total

Ahmadinejad Met With Protests, Criticism at Columbia University
Not surprisingly the impressions of how the Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was treated differ greatly depending on which media source you are reading. The New York Times story repeatedly states how the students chastised Columbia president Lee Bollinger for the way he addressed Ahmadinejad. They also portrayed Bollinger as trying to duck questions on the matter. To say the least it is difficult to imagine that both papers were covering the same event. The Washington Post on the other hand portrayed it quite differently. In their story, Bollinger’s comments were greeted with cheers and applause from students and faculty alike. Their story goes into detail sadly lacking in the New York Times piece as to Ahmadinejad assertions that women have incredible freedom in Iran and that homosexuality does not exist in his country. He also went on at length about how the Holocaust never happened. I was very pleasantly surprised by the treatment given Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Lee Bollingers stat

Forget his hatred of Jews and gays. Forget his repression of free speech. Forget that he's killing your countrymen to prevent Iraq from being a peaceful democracy (and an example to his own people). Forget that he supports the killing of women and children. Forget that he wants to kill you (unless you convert). HE'S LYING RIGHT TO YOUR FACE! Don't you find that insulting? In the 1950s, a group of Islamic clergy led by Sheikh Mahmoud Halabi (a close associate of Ayatollah Khomeini) formed a society called the Anjoman-e Khayryyehye Hujjatiyyah-ye Mahdaviat (Charitable Society of the Mahdi), based in Mashhad, Iran. Despite rumors and press postings to the contrary, Iranian President Ahmadinejad is indeed going to appear behind the podium at Columbia University in New York City today. Ahmadinejad will deliver a prepared speech at 1:30 EST and then take part in a question and answer session with the Columbia students. The sad thing in all of this is that just as many of the students at Columbia that claim they understand that Ahmadinejad is a hate-monger would also say the very same thing about someone like me. Think about that while you’re perhaps watching the live televised coverage of Ahmadinejad or the YouTube copies that will no doubt be posted later today. I hope that the students at Columbia come away from this that much the wiser, but for some reason I do not have very much faith in this younger generation to be able to sort out truth from fiction. Ahmadinejad says Iran, U.S. not headed for war: CBS
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Iran did not need nuclear weapons and his country was not heading for war with the United States, according to a television interview to be broadcast Sunday. Asked whether Iran's goal was to obtain a nuclear bomb, he said the answer was a "firm no," according to a transcript of his interview with CBS' "60 Minutes" recorded on Thursday in Tehran. "You have to appreciate we don't need a nuclear bomb. We don't need that. What need do we have for a bomb?" he said. The United States accuses Iran of seeking to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of its civil nuclear program. Iran denies both allegations. Asked whether Iran and the United States were heading toward conflict over Tehran's nuclear ambitions, he said: "It's wrong to think that Iran and the U.S. are walking toward war. Who says so? Why should we go to war? There is no war in the offing." Officials of the five permanent U.N. Sec

      Open Thread: Protest Against Ahmadinejad
It’s Sunday already? I’m taking a breather today, but I wanted to open up discussions again as usual. I also want to bring to your attention some protest information for any of you that might be in the NYC area on Monday. President Ahmadinejad of Iran is in New York, as most of you know, and he’s set to be a “Guest of Honor” at Columbia University. This in itself is a travesty and many people are quite upset about it, especially American Jews who aren’t too happy about a man that denies the Holocaust and threatens destruction of Israel on a fairly regular basis. This is equivalent to inviting Adolph Hitler to speak before the United Nations and U.S. students during World War II. Our Academia in the U.S. have truly lost a good portion of their minds and American Common Sense to the ‘insanely liberal’ process. AN AMERICAN WARNING - AHMADINEJAD IS COMING TO AMERICA TONIGHT
A day before flying to New York to speak directly to the American people (CBS's "60 Minutes" airing Sunday, and through appearances at the U.N., Columbia University and several other events), Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad struck a confrontational tone Saturday with a parade of fighter jets and missiles and tough warnings for the United States to stay out of the Mideast.   Some of the missile trucks were painted with the slogans "Down with the U.S." and "Down with Israel." The parade also featured unmanned aerial surveillance drones, torpedoes, and tanks.   Tensions are high between Washington and Tehran over the fact that Iran is supplying insurgents with IED’s and other weapons used against American soldiers. Washington has said it is addressing the Iran situation diplomatically, rather than militarily, but U.S. officials also say that all options are open.   "Those (countries) who assume that decaying methods such as psychological war, political propaganda
