After all, agriculture was the principal industry in our area for decades and continues to play a major role in our regions livelihood. Of total homeownership in India, farmers and other agricultural workers make for 37.94%. The farmers with marketable surplus grab the top position among homeowners in India and even outnumber businessmen in cities. People in this category are believed to be earning Rs 90,000 a year.

New Delhi, May 5 (IANS) The government is taking necessary steps to ramp up investments in the agricultural sector with various incentives, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said here Saturday.
According to a ministry statement, Pawar also said the government was taking adequate policy and regulatory measures to strengthen forward and backward linkages in the marketing sector.
Enlisting the steps taken by the government to support the agricultural sector, Pawar said taxes on processed food have already been reduced and a number of Agricultural Export Promotion Zones (AEZs) have been established, besides allowing foreign direct investment in food processing and single brand retailing.

We are amending the list of regulated areas in the witchweed quarantine and regulations by adding or removing areas in North Carolina and South Carolina. These changes affect five counties in North Carolina and two counties in South Carolina. These actions are necessary in order to prevent the artificial spread of witchweed from areas where the weed has been detected and to remove restrictions that are no longer necessary on the interstate movement of regulated articles from areas where witchweed has been eradicated.
