Last Friday I wrote about the 'Big Picture' showing all nine Islay Distillery Managers together, which is a unique and very exclusive happening. Furthermore I mentioned that this picture was shot for the American magazine Malt Advocate to be used in this quarters feature article about Islay and its distilleries.Today John Hansell, Publisher & Editor of Malt Advocate magazine, contacted me. He was pleasantly surprised to find the picture on this blog. John visited Islay in May and visited each distillery and their managers. The result is an Islay Whisky special titled 'Islay Whiskies are Smokin' in this issue (fourth quarter 2007) of Malt Adocate magazine, of 8,000 words, which is the equivalent of four or five of their standard-length feature stories. There are also two other enjoyable Islay whisky pieces, one from Steven Beaumont who participated in the Islay whisky Festival and a story from Jonny McCormick about Black Bowmore. There has been so much talk about Ruch Limbaugh and the comments he made on his September 26 radio show. As the above video shows, ol' Rush is now claiming that he never said he called service members who advocate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq "phony soldiers."He now states, the comment followed a discussion of Jesse Macbeth, an anti-war activist who pleaded guilty to one count of making false statements to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for pretending to be an injured Iraq war veteran.Well, here's the radio program on the 26 of September; You tell me of whom Mr. Limbaugh was calling phony soldier: Audio Clip Click Photo to listen to this audio clip If Problems Download this clip hereNow I know that I'm not the smartest man in the world, but didn't you hear Rush agree that service members who advocate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq are "phony soldiers" and then Rush called them "phony soldiers" himself. If you don't have an answer for this, t

Advocacy groups Texas Appleseed and Advocacy Incorporated have filed a lawsuit against the Texas Youth Commission over using pepper spray on young inmates with mental disabilities. The lawsuit was brought forth on behalf of three 15-year-olds who have had pepper spray used on them or been threatened with its use.
According to the advocacy groups the use of pepper spray has gone up dramatically this year and unfairly targets kids with disabilities who tend to act out more. Pepper spray was introduced as a policy as a method of last resort, but the practical use, according to the lawsuit has been one of intimidation and punishment rather than rehabilitation.

By Michelle Boorstein and Allison KleinWashington Post Staff WritersThursday, September 13, 2007 Antiwar activist Cindy Sheehan wipes away a tear as Adam Kokesh, left at podium, and the Rev. Lennox Yearwood Jr. speak at a news conference. (By Gerald Herbert -- Associated Press) A week of events meant to crank up a national demonstration against the war in Iraq is set to begin Saturday, with a 1,000-person "die-in" at the U.S. Capitol led by current and former American troops and accompanied by taps and a mock 21-gun salute. The die-in will be the culmination of a march and rally. Organizers hope the event will spur people in the antiwar movement to move from protesting to performing acts of civil disobedience that "get in the way of the war machine," said Brian Becker, national coordinator of the ANSWER Coalition, at a news conference yesterday at the National Press Club. The group's permit with the U.S. Park Police is for 10,000 people, a source said, but ANSWER, which stands fo
Even though The Devil's Advocate has been on television a million of times, I never watched it, not until last night. Following a young couple of whom the husband, Kevin Lomax, is a lawyer, The Devil's Advocate shows Kevin's rise to succes and the mysterious happenings that go alongside it. Based on the novel with the same title, The Devil's Advocate is a solid thriller combining elements of other genres as well. There are some religious themes in it, a wife going crazy after seeing things that doesn't seem to be really there, their marriage that needs to be saved, and what it's like when you all of a sudden are part of the upper class. Even though the main subject seems to be lawyers and their work in court, this film isn't about an exceptional case that needs to be resolved like most of those films are usually about, but it's more about the rise to succes of it's main protagonist and the real reasons how he got there. Director Taylor Hackford, who's most succesful film to d

The reason behind the killing is not clear yet.”Roy’s body was discovered on Thursday after neighbour Laltu Mukherjee sounded the alarm on detecting a stench emanating from the second-floor flat, where he lived alone since his wife Krishna and daughter Nandita left him eight years ago.Police arrived at the Park Side Road building and broke into the flat to find Roy’s body on the bed, wrapped in a blanket.Mukherjee was the la
More Conversations with Bob! Bob,Very thoughtful and thorough exegesis of those four sample texts. I am going to respond first as devil's advocate then how I really think.Women. The church has clearly interpreted this passage and others at face value. This passage from Paul's letter is clear. The worship space is public where men will do the talking. The history of interpretation is on my side. The Pope is not female. Neither is the president of the Southern Baptist Convention. If that changes then we will have left the biblical witness. Women, keep your silence. This is the Word of God.Slavery. Only recently has the church shunned the biblical witness on slavery. Slavery is clearly God-ordained throughout the scriptures beginning with the curse of Noah. There are God-ordained roles. Some are slaves, some are free. We are one in Christ in a spiritual sense, but there are roles for men and women, slave and free. Christ is coming soon, but until then, s
So, I've blathered on and on about consideration of using an advocate in regards to your IEPs, etc....well, I figured with school just around the corner, there has never been a better time to bring the subject up again. Many of us (you all, you are going to read an interview with the Grassos advocate) will find that our IEPs aren't right, or the teachers aren't implementing them, or the school is getting X,Y or Z wrong....and you'll go into a meeting possibly angry, disgusted, or ready to hurt and maim. They (the other side) may seem stoic or unsympathetic. It doesn't necessarily have to be that way (sometimes, it seems, this is inevitable though) and an advocate can help.
Aimee Rodriguez-Dinehart was recommended to us through our SN peditrician, Amy Pakula, and we have used her extensively. She is an excellent resource for the Grassos when it comes to navigating the maze of public education on behalf of Super D. I thought having her chime in on some areas of advocacy would be wor
Just when you thought it was going to be a slow day on the campaign trail, Elizabeth Edwards opens her big mouth again, this time stating that her husband is a better advocate for women than Hilary Clinton. I'm pretty sure it was a thinly veiled shot claiming Hilary is really a man. ;)Actually, if you really think about it, Edwards does have nicer hair, dress better, and is at least tolerable in his speaking voiceMaybe Elizabeth Edwards is on to something after all....
In my last post on the Names of Christ I wrote about the name “Amen,” which is found in Rev. 3:14. If you read that post then you may recall that I said that faithfulness is not something that Jesus does, faithfulness is what He Is. There’s a tremendous difference between doing something and being something!
“Amen” is certainly one of my favorite Names of Christ. One reason that it is one of my favorites is because it opens up a window to understanding Christ and who He Is. After all, if Christ wasn’t faithful then why would any of His other Names matter? Why would it matter if He called Himself “Redeemer” or “Savior” if He couldn’t be counted on to tell the truth? Yet when we understand that Jesus is not just faithful, but He is faith–when we understand that He is not just truthful but that He is Truth–then our understanding of the Nature of Christ takes on a whole new dimension.

State Rep. Jon Draud, R-Edgewood, fared best in this year's Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce legislative scorecard....Draud said the entire Northern Kentucky Legislative Caucus was supportive of the chamber's efforts."I don't want it to look like I'm doing a lot more than any other caucus member," he said. "I think most all of our legislators are very pro on economic development."Draud said it was not hard to get behind the chamber's positions because many of them reflect his own belief in the importance of education."My main interest is education because that can solve economic development problems or health issues," he said. "All our problems are related to an under-educated population."
You’ve got to see this. EFF’s staff attorney Kevin Bankston has been spotted on Google’s Streetview smoking a cigarette. The funny thing is, this isn’t the first time! A few years ago, Bankston was photographed by Amazon’s A9 service smoking a cigarette at the time that he was trying to conceal his smoking from his family.

As always, I'm honored to be able to serve as an advocate. Much of what you state in the blog, as you share your personal experiences as daddy of a young boy with autism, rings close and true to my own heart. It's never easy, yet you are able to reflect on the experience with great candor...and even a sense of humor! I get to peek into your world through these "come to Jesus" conversations of yours!

When Red Mummy approached me to be an invited Advocate in Blogger Kickstart, I thought it would be cool until it set in to me much later and I thought - "Hang on...what does it take to be an Advocate in Blogger Kickstart. I'm no Red Hot Blooded woman like Red, I don't have a sharp expandable vocab like Simon Cowell and worst....what if I myself make no sense to the question given ..then what??
That's when I got my thinking cap and submit my proposal to the Main Judge and the Creator of Blogger Kickstart (but of course, i seek permission) and thus an assignment adjoining Red Mummy's favourite topic - RED and what I know best - DESIGN is created. The twist, I'm not actually expecting to be reading design thesis.

Animal Advocate wrote:Your question seems to regard the social contract. Does our social contract value protecting the majority (national security) over the minority (right to a fair trial) or vice versa? It seems throughout American history, protection of the majority has been preferred during times of war. No doubt this administration abuses the power that comes with the threat of war. But if we take your hypothetical state of four people as a representation of the current American public, one could argue that yes, indeed those two people would agree to imprison the third in the name of "national security." Or maybe the pendulum has finally drifted too far in that direction and protection of civil liberties has resurfaced. This amorphous entity called the state has been given the power to protect us from the state of nature, and rational people would disagree about whether that means protecting the many or protecting the few in anticipation of members of the many becoming members of
The New York Times reports that prominent Democratic leaders are beginning a new legislative push for withdrawal of US troops in Iraq.
In addition to setting a timetable, this bill prevents Bush from invading Iran without Congressional approval, it sets aside resources for fighting terrorists in Afghanistan, and it provides for a quickening of the pullout if progress isn’t made.
