Social bullying in adolescence linked to adult anxiety, depression
Spreading rumors and gossiping may not cause bruises or black eyes, but the psychological consequences of this social type of bullying could linger into early adulthood, a new University of Florida study shows. In a study of 210 college students, the researchers discovered a link between what psychologists call relational victimization in adolescence and anxiety and depression in early adulthood, according to findings published in the journal Psychology in the Schools. Rather than threatening a child with physical violence, these bullies target a child's social status and relationships by shunning them, excluding them from social activities or spreading rumors, said Allison Dempsey, a doctoral student in the University of Florida College of Education and the study's lead author. I think it’s adolescence.
Kayley is driving me bananas. Seriously. I was starting to worry that she’d suffered a head injury and didn’t tell me about it, until we went to RaeJean’s house the other day for Owen’s birthday party and I realized that Phoenix is acting just like her. Please tell me that she’ll get her brain back soon? I swear, I have to explain things to her in such excruciating detail, and then she still forgets to finish stuff, does it half-assed, or has to come back to me for further clarification. Stuff that MALLORY could probably easily figure out. Speaking of Owen’s party, it was at 11 a.m. on Sunday. During breakfast, at about 9:15, I asked K if she needed to take a shower, and if so, she needed to hurry up and do so right after breakfast so we could get going. She scampered right upstairs to get in the shower. So I got the kids dressed and cleaned up and shoed, and I waited…and waited…and waited…and finally, I went upstairs to see wha
