For some reason the children at my church have started calling me Ice Cream Man. I don't know how the collective imagination of the average five year old has come to see me as The Ice Cream Man, nor does it really matter. All I know is whether I like it or not I will be seen as The Ice Cream Man until I am very old and grey. Today was no different than any other day and being fathers day one wi

The totally accidental mystery of the angry critic who stormed out of a crowded Cannes screening of Two Lovers rather than "wait an hour for fucking [director] James Gray" was put to rest this afternoon at Entertainment Weekly, where critic Lisa Schwarzbaum copped to the outburst we once guessed came from Manohla Dargis. Plaintive acoustic guitars, the calls of sea birds, gentle loops and programming, and the hushed vocals of a guy who sometimes sounds like Peter Gabriel: that's the Accidental on "Jaw of a Whale." But that description might also summarize There Were Wolves, the debut full-length from this collective of musicians you may have heard of.

After coming very close today to plowing into a jackass that pulled out in front of me way too late, while I was foolishly zooming down the right-turn only lane assuming everyone going straight or left would continue to do so, I decided that (a) they’re not accidents, they’re mistakes and (b) we should start including the driver’s name(s) and hometowns in the morning traffic reports when these mistakes happen. Perhaps removing the anonymity people enjoy behind the wheel will make them think twice before making a move they fully know is unreasonable and so often prickish.Today’s delay is courtesy of Tony le Tigre of the 700 block of Narcissist Row in Westchester Hills. Tony decided he needed to be in the right lane when it was already occupied and didn’t feel like waiting his turn

When Captain Hackfeld opened his first store in Honolulu in 1849, only seventy-one years had passed since Captain James Cook discovered the Hawaiian archipelago. The discovery was accidental. Captain Cook, like Columbus, had been searching for a shorter route to the Orient, when he sighted the islands of Kauai and Oahu. This accident in 1778 marked the end of a thousand years of isolation for the Hawaiian people. At the time of Captain Cook's arrival the population used stone-age techniques in their building, agriculture and fishing. Except for dogs and hogs, both of which were used for food, there were no domestic animals or beasts of burden in the Islands. The people were not agriculturally minded. Although their crops were planted in well-managed gardens and some of the dry lands were i
A Swiss study published in the journal Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics has found that Acute Stress Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder are not the rule after accidental injuries. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of acute stress disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following accidental injuries, and to predict the PTSD symptom level at 6 months, taking into particular consideration the role of pre-existing psychiatric morbidity and insufficient command of the local language. A total of 255 accident survivors who were hospitalized for at least 2 consecutive nights at a Swiss university hospital for treatment of recently acquired physical injuries were interviewed within 2 weeks of the trauma and 6 months after the accident. Spensi on WoW LJ says she may have accidentally ninja'ed -- it was clear before the raid that if Moroes' Pocket Watch dropped, she would get it. But when it actually dropped, she apparently looted it herself as main looter without saying anything, and her guildies didn't quite remember the deal before the instance started. Was it a ninja? I don't know -- there are good points on both sides. In fact, it seems the only way to really avoid loot drama is to, unfortunately, be as selfless as possible. Last night, I did a run of Ramparts on my up-and-coming hunter, and on the first boss, the Hunter mail pants dropped. The other Hunter in the party needed them as well, so we rolled on them, and I won. Later in the instance, another green piece came up that we both needed, but to be fair
Madrid, Spain (ThaLunatic Daily) -- Well, if you haven't heard the news, you probably will soon enough. Ola Brunkert, the drummer for Swedish pop group ABBA has died in an apparent accident that occurred at his home over the weekend. He was found dead at his home in Arta, Spain.Police have indicated that they do not believe foul play was involved. They believe Brunkert was injured when he fell against a glass partition at his home. The partition broke and caused a severe laceration to his neck, according to reports. While the autopsy is still pending, authorities believe 'bleeding to death' was the likely cause of death.Reports indicate that Brunkert apparently attempted to slow down the bleeding and go for help when he collapsed in a garden outside his kitchen.Although Brunkert

I was already thinking of writing this when I came across Alfonso Cevola’s post on the foibles and fleeting romanticism of inadvertently keeping wine past its time. Thus inspired, I simply must. My wine concerned was not as upsetting to me as Alfonso’s may have been to him. It doesn’t involve a wine nearly as old or something of which I had only a single bottle or had never before tasted. In fact, I look at my experience as positive, even comforting. That last thought makes the following story a perfect tie in to this month's edition of Wine Blogging Wednesday, which focuses on comfort wines, hosted by Joel at Wine Life Today. The wine in question was the 1997 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano from Fattoria di Palazzo Vecchio ($18 on release, 13.5% alcohol, natural cork, formerly im
The Hennepin County medical examiner has determined that amateur bodybuilder Erik Fromm died from an accidental overdose of Fentanyl. Fentanyl is a highly potent painkiller described as 80 times as strong as morphine. Fromm was in a severe car accident that resulted in severe pain.Fromm had a serious traffic accident about a year ago in Wyoming, causing him severe pain in his lower back and in his legs and arms, said Kevin Schreifels, a friend of Fromm’s.“He was rating the pain pretty high,” said Schreifels, a doctor at Lyn-Lake Chiropractic in Minneapolis. He said he was unaware of Fromm using fentanyl. Source: Meso-Rx BlogPhoto Credit:
Most people who are addicted to prescription painkillers do not know that they are, and in fact, their pain has not subsided and may have increased over long term use of opiods. There are physiological, mental and social factors in addiction, and successful treatment is holistic.

Saw on Yahoo that they'd finally figured out what Heath Ledger Died of.His death apparently wasn't caused by Ambien, but rather by a combination of "oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine," which is, "the painkiller OxyContin, the anti-anxiety drugs Valium and Xanax, and the sleep aids Restoril and Unisom. Hydrocodone is a prescription painkiller."Ledger's father said, "While no medications were taken in excess, we learned today the combination of doctor-prescribed drugs proved lethal for our boy. Heath's accidental death serves as a caution to the hidden dangers of combining prescription medication, even at low dosage."So what does this mean? It means that doctors prescribed drugs that in combination killed him. Did they prescribe new drugs knowing he was
Hawthorne Heights' Casey CalvertAutopsy lists 'acute combined effects' of prescription medications and unspecified opiate, possibly Vicodin; expert says, 'This kind of death is one in several million.'Hawthorne Heights guitarist Casey Calvert died due to the "acute combined effects of opiate, citalopram and clonazepam intoxication," according to the results of an autopsy released Monday (December 17) by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Washington, D.C. He was found dead in the band's tour bus outside the 9:30 club in the city on November 24.The autopsy listed Calvert's death as accidental, though a spokesperson for the chief medical examiner added that it was brought on due to "substance abuse." The opiate referred to in the report wasn't specified, but often, any drug that acts on cell receptors — including strong prescription pain relievers such as fentanyl or oxycodone — are referred to as "opiates" or sometimes "opoids." Both citalopram (also known by the br

Earlier this year we stepped back to examine the value users, advertisers, and publishers derive from clicks on content ads. As you integrate ads with your site's content and navigation, we want to ensure a positive user experience. We identified a few areas for improvement and began implementing changes, starting with our new ad formats in April. Continuing these improvements, we've just changed our text ads slightly to help reduce accidental clicks. In the past, users could click on both the background and full text of an ad, but now they can click only on the title and URL of a text ad. By allowing users to click only on the ad title and URL, we aim to decrease accidental clicks, better aligning visitor behavior with their intent. Overall, the decrease in accidental clicks will keep users on your website, interacting your content, until they intend to click on an ad. In addition, this new clickable format better aligns with the text ad formats shown on Google.com. We hope this for
Do you ever feel bad because you made a mistake? Remember, some of our favorite foods were discovered by accident.
Popsicles
In 1905 an eleven-year-old Frank Epperson was mixing powdered soda and water to make soda pop. Frank accidentally left the mixing bucket outside. During the night the mixture froze solid, with the wooden stirring stick standing straight up. But the frozen pop tasted great! Frank started selling Epperson icicles for five cents, later changing the name to popsicles.

Before I left the states, people often asked me if I planned on teaching while away and I swore I never would- I didn't want to be a teacher, I certainly didn't want to work, and I certainly had no desire to spoil an uninterrupted 16 month holiday. Yet here I am writing about Bangkok, a city I have only come to love because I stopped and became a teacher. It was an accident I became a teacher in the first place. Like all major decisions in my life, this one was made with little thought- I just did it on a gut feeling. It may sound silly to make such major decisions without much thought, but for me, it's never really turned out bad. (Traveling the world, getting an MBA, switching University- all made in split second). So my one month stay in Bangkok to learn Thai turned into an 8 month adve
The official story on this voicemail is that Larry Craig was trying to call his lawyer, but dialed the wrong number and left this message. A few things that make me wonder:1) Larry Craig made this call from his cell phone. Why wouldn't he have his lawyer's number on speed dial, or at least in his contacts? Why would he be dialing manually?2) This is all we know about the recipient of this message: "the phone's owner, who is a Washington, D.C., resident not involved in politics and is not the person the Senator was trying to reach."There are rumors going around the blogosphere that this tape was leaked by Craig's lawyer. Maybe this was done to get the idea that Craig was "railroaded" out into the open. I don't know. But I also heard a rumor...make that a fact... that the Bush administration has been listening to and recording people's phone calls.Makes you wonder.
I have hit the exercise consistency nail on the head the past couple of weeks. I have been planning my work-outs, working out, looking forward to working out, and subsequently enjoying it immensely. Tonight, I planned to work-out with the track club, planned my day around it, dropped Allison off with Eric at work, and then sat in traffic. Finally, after arriving at Balboa Stadium, I realized that SHIT, it is summer schedule, and the meet-up is across Balboa Park, which at rush hour is just a PIA to get to. It was already 5:35 p.m. and it starts at 5:30 p.m. Double shit.
I arrived across Balboa Park ten minutes later, gave up on the meet-up, and decided to do my own run. I cranked up the music and decided to make the best of it. Sometimes, your own runs are the best. I immediately found my zone (again, two nights in a row) and gave it my best. Balboa Park is a beautiful area to run, walk, walk your dog, play with your kids, visit the Zoo, playgrounds, dog parks, museums, pi
I plan on diving as much as humanly possible while I’m away. Sometimes I even like to sit on my couch and play Scuba Steve in full dive gear while staring longingly at reruns of Globe Trekker: Sri Lanka & the Maldives.
But I digress …
Many travelers harbor irrational fears that affect their journeys and the risks they take. For travelers with a penchant for diving, many fear sharks. In our dive class, our instructors and divemasters underscored how unlikely it is that we’d ever be the victim of a shark attack.
Feeling a bit curious today, I decided to find out just how unlikely. Finding worldwide shark attack statistics was easy, however the only comprehensive list of “cause of death” stats I could find were from 2003 and specific to the United States. No matter though because the comparison only reinforces what our instructors told us.
To put things in perspective, I’ve compared fatal shark attacks worldwide to other, what I would consi

ISBN-0814471803Every day, people are promoted into the ranks of management . . . even if they never intended to become managers. They agree to their new responsibilities either to stay employed or to make more money. It is a universal phenomenon. But for these "accidental managers," it makes more sense to manage well than to manage badly, and this book tells them how.

They say that things come in threes. In my experience, 2 of the things will be similar in nature, and the third will be… same same but different, as they say here in Thailand. What I mean is that… well, maybe this story will speak for itself.
We all know that the paparazzi are really annoying, and we understand that stars get a little pissed when they are constantly photographed. Well, Brad Pitt thought he was being chased by the paparazzi and got out of his car and went up to an SUV and started taking pictures inside at some random driver.
“I was stopped at an intersection when I saw this guy jump out of the back seat of a white SUV,” Brigette (random driver) told the Enquirer.
“I was confused. I thought he was going to get into a fight with the man in the car in front of me. I was shocked when he came right up to my passenger window, glared at me and started taking my picture. And when I realized it was Brad Pitt, I was even more shocked.”
“When it was over, I was kicking myself for not rolling down the window,” she said. “What are the chances of Brad Pitt coming up to you car?”
Brigette also has a request for Brad: “I’d like to get a copy of that photo that you took of me.”

Adding an accidental death and dismemberment rider to a term life policy is an ideal way for those who need extra protection to get combined and comprehensive coverage. Accidental death and dismemberment riders are also known as "A D & D Riders" as well as "Multiple Indemnities." Multiple indemnities mean that an insurance company will pay a multiple of the policy's face value. This is the amount that the policy would pay to the beneficiary in the event of the death of the insured person. One common example of indemnities is double indemnities. This pays an equal amount to the face value of the policy so if the insured person dies in an accident, the beneficiary receives the policy face value and the A D & D Rider face value, which is twice as much as the original amount.Additional Occurrences Covered by an A D & D RiderDepending on the rider coverage you choose to add to your term life insurance policy, A D & D Riders may also cover loss of sight or the loss of one or more lim

I am guilty of one or two accidental clicks on ads running on my site. The first time it happened was last year, as I was redesigning the layout. As I was examining the results, I accidentally clicked one. I felt terrible about it for a while, and then just made sure to not click my ads. The last time it happened was just a while ago when I noticed what looked like a YouTube video on my site. I thought I don't remember putting this up... and clicked the play button. What I didn't realize until later was that it, in fact, was an...

Weird, quirky, out of the world, unusual name hah? I don’t blame you… The name Bhindi Fry in Yogurt is the name we kept for our Accidental Diva. After working my ass off in office trying to figure out where I went wrong with some thousand lines code, no wonder my brain was on curfew. There was a bag of lovely tender okra which was sitting in one corner of refrigerator for more than a week and before it starts rotting I wanted to cook something out of it. I hate to waste things especially food. All I could think of cooking was simple Stuffed Bhindi. With my brain cells going haywire, I absentmindedly chopped half of Bhindi’s before it dawned upon me I am supposed to slit them for Stuffed Bhindi. And before I could do anything my better half was ready with the ground masala for stuffing the okra. The only solution which came to my rescue was my Hubby Dear who is an expert in fixing things ;) The end result was Bhindi Fry. Just when I thought all’s well which ends well, I ended up
Accidental File DeletionHave you ever accidentally deleted files from you computer? If so, then you know how horrible this can be. It might just be personal documents, music, pictures, or even important projects for work or school. No matter what kind file is accidentally deleted, it is an inconvenience to have to redo the files you lost. It could even be tragic if you lost irreplaceable information. You might think that you don't have anything to worry about. All deleted files go to the recycling bin and they can be easily restored right? Unfortunately this is not the case, and the recycling bin does not always catch every deleted file. If you rely on the recycling bin, then you run the risk of every accidentally deleted file disappearing forever. The good news is that you can use a program called Undelete® to protect you files. Undelete® will replace your recycling bin with a recovery bin which will catch every file that is deleted and easily restores files fast when needed. Click
Taking a pill to allow eating gluten is a very appealing idea to people suffering from Celiac disease. Trying to maintain a gluten free diet for life, especially while traveling or having an active social life is nearly impossible. However, for those with Celiac disease, gluten exposure can cause serious symptoms and increase the risk of numerous cancers, especially lymphoma. It is unlikely a pill will become available in the very near future that would allow an unrestricted diet. However, in the February 2007 issue of the journal Gut, Dr. Cerf-Bensussan et al. from France, review the latest research that has progressed to the early stages of developing a gluten digestive enzyme pill. Oral proteases, enzymes that break down proteins, are being developed that target the toxic wheat gluten protein product gliadin that causes Celiac disease. Autopsy Reveals Leverts Death; Accidental Drug MixA coroner in Geauga County, Ohio said the death of Gerald Levert last fall was due to an accidental combination of prescription narcotics and over-the-counter drugs. The drugs found in his bloodstream included a fatal mix of the narcotic pain relievers Vicodin, Percocet and Darvocet, along with anxiety medication Xanax and two over-the-counter antihistamines, said Geauga County Coroner Kevin Chartrand. The official cause of death was acute intoxication.According to family spokesperson Andy Gibson, Levert had been taking the pain medication because of chronic pain from a lingering shoulder problem and surgery in 2005 to repair a severed Achilles tendon. Gibson said Levert took Xanax for anxiety attacks. The autopsy was conducted by the Cuyahoga County coroner's office and turned in to Chartrand on Thursday. The report revealed that Levert also had pneumonia at the time of his death. Levert, son of O'Jays singer Eddie Levert, died N
The audio version of The Accidental is made especially memorable by the excellent ensemble cast that reads it. Each of the actors has been expertly chosen to read the thoughts and experiences of one of the four members of the Smart family and the young lady who "accidentally" enters into, and radically changes, their lives. And as is almost always the case, I have to wonder how differently I have reacted to the audio book version of The Accidental in comparison to how I might have reacted to the written version of the book. The readers are that good. The Smarts, a London family living in a Norfolk cottage that they have rented for the summer, are a family coming apart at the seams at the beginning of the novel. Michael is a university professor who spends more time trying to seduce his female students than he does in educating them. Eve, his wife, is a second-rate novelist who specializes in re-creating the lives of people who were killed during World War II by changing the circum
