Aberdeen is Scotland’s third largest city, in relationship to population size. Since the mid 18th century Aberdeen’s buildings have been built using local grey granite and the city has a sandy coastline. This has led to the city being nicknamed the Silver City and also the Granite City. However more recently the city has also [...]
I think it's about time we had some more Fall around these parts. I just wish the sound quality on this recording was a little better because it's a first rate performance from the mighty ones. Interestingly the Smithster disappears after about half an hour. I heard a rumour he had a touch of flu but short set or not it's a great performance, this line up really seem to be gelling now and I can't

A first-half penalty from Michael Carrick and a Wayne Rooney header after the break gave
Manchester United a comfortable win over Aberdeen in their challenge match at Pittodrie.
Just before half-time Rooney was brought down by Aberdeen keeper Jamie Langfield inside the

The PUBLIC LIBRARY, corner of 7th and K Sts., is housed in a two-story, red-brick, tile-roofed building. Its collection of 27,832 volumes includes 50 volumes in the Swedish language. OLYMPIC STADIUM AND RECREATIONAL FIELD, entrance 28th and Cherry Sts., opened Thanksgiving Day, 1939, is the leading athletic field in Grays Harbor district. The city purchased the site in 1929, but no improvements were made until 1938, when construction began under WPA, with the Hoquiam Park Board furnishing the materials. The grandstand has a seating capacity of 10,000 and the grounds are lighted for night games. There are fields for baseball, football, and softball, and two tennis courts. Plans call for the completion of an archery range, horseshoe courts, a bowling green, children's playfield, and picnic grounds. 10. The SAMUEL BENN HOME (private), 4th St., between G and F Sts., a two-story clapboard-sided building, painted in battleship gray, was built in 1887 by the pioneer, Samuel Benn. It displays
Aberdeen and Hoquiam, originally settlements four miles apart, have grown into a single population center, divided only by Myrtle Street. In an atmosphere hazy with smoke from mill stacks and burners, these twin cities spread along Grays Harbor and the tidal waters of the three rivers flowing into it: Aberdeen lies at the confluence of the Chehalis and the Wishkah Rivers; Hoquiam borders the banks of the Hoquiam River. Both cities face Grays Harbor, whose entrance, 12 miles westward, is often blanketed by the fog or rainfall characteristic of the region. The industrial area of both cities stretches along the water front. Here are numerous sawmills, with their sheds, yards, and loading docks. Stacks of freshly cut lumber diffuse through the streets the pungent odor of fir cedar, and hemlock. Straddle-legged lumber carriers, motor driven, roll swiftly about the yards. Large cranes swing arms laden with lumber from the yard to the deck of a ship berthed against the wharf. From the mill co
A month ago I was planning to go to Paris for the the month of July. I say planning instead of going because there were several things that needed to transpire before that could actually happen. I needed a new passport. My old passport that I obtained in 1997, which included a picture that made me look like Vanilla Ice if he had taken up an academic career, expired in May. I needed a flat in Paris. I simply didn't have it in me to stay in a dorm or some such accommodation. Last time I did that in Freiburg, Germany, I shared a room with a much younger American who soaked his foot in an upside-down frisbee and would note his daily recovery in his journal. [Oddities aside, he was a good guy.]I also would need a flight to Paris. Normally this would not be a problem, but my gargantuan cell phone bill, which ended up being almost as much as my rent for the month, was making things a bit tight. Now I'm going; all hurdles have been cleared. I bought my plane ticket. The U.S. Embassy

I'm surprised how unexcited I am about the Aberdeen Cup.Maybe it's because there are no ranking points at stake. Maybe it's because I'm conflicted over whether to support England or Murray. Or perhaps I'm just disappointed that I can't be there to watch it.Anyway, credit to Murray for winning the first match 6-4 3-6 6-4. Scotland led 3-1 after the first day.On day two, Scotland pulled off a whitewash with Andy & Jamie beating Rusedski and Auckland in the doubles and Murray defeating Rusedski again, this time in straight sets 6-3 6-4.The final score: Scotland 6.5 England 1Roll on the new season.
It is almost a forgone conclusion that Cal Ripken will be inducted into the Hall of Fame, so the Aberdeen IronBirds, one of the Orioles A affiliates and by owned by him, will take part in the Hall of Fame Weekend celebration, playing in the New York-Penn League Game at historic Doubleday Field according to the Examiner Newspaper. Expect a Maryland-centric weekend in New York as a ton of people from the state will flock up there to see Cal Ripken get inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
