My sister, Ruth, who lives in northern Alberta, and I (from London) have been meeting in Toronto (our 'half way' point) often to make the trip many times over the last few years to the small town of Wiarton, Ontario (where we were born), to visit our Aunt Mabel. Sadly, our trip during the last two weeks was to see our very special auntie for the last time. We were so glad that she was aware that we were there with her and could speak to us briefly. She passed away peacefully on 12 July in her 101st year. Mabel, a quiet but charismatic lady, had friends of all ages and it was comforting to meet so many from both the local area where she had lived all her life and from further away, who came to be with us at a sad time. However, this was a celebration of a long life well lived. The photo was taken on her 100th birthday in March and this is the way we will remember her - happy to be surrounded by friends, family and very caring staff and, for once, pleased to be 'Queen for a Day'.

Akismet Auntie Spam for WordPress is a Greasemonkey script that makes managing the spam caught by Akismet and checking for false positives a hell of a lot easier. I’ve written before about ways that I’d like to see the Akismet interface improved and Engtech’s script takes a step in the right direction by truncating long comments so you can see more on screen at once and not spend so much time scrolling through the spam. Current Mood: My little sister went to the doctor today. They did an ultrasound to check on the baby and she is breech. Since she is Jess’ first baby they don’t want her to give birth naturally so they are going to do a c-section Monday morning at 7:30 am. Normally, I have to work on Mondays and I wouldn’t have been able to go, but the managers at DirecTV are compassionate and overrode the scheduling dept so I can be at the birth of my first niece. I really like that company. Cingular never would have let me do it. I would’ve had to call in and risk getting fired. I’m excited. My cousins’ kids call me auntie and I love them just like they are my nieces and nephews instead of second cousins, but it’s different when one of your siblings is having a baby. I’m already overflowing with so much love for the baby I feel like I could burst. If I feel this strongly about my niece I can’t even begin to imagine how I would feel about my own baby.
